Answer:

A bond dipole is the unequal charge distribution between two bonded atoms with different electronegativities .A molecular dipole moment is the three dimensional sum of all the bond dipoles in a molecule.(A dipole moment is measurable physical property;a dipole moment is not measurable unless the molecule is polar.

Explanation:

Electronegativity is defined as the ability of an element to attract the electrons that link it to another element.

When two atoms are chemically linked, and their electronegativities are different, the one with the greatest electronegativity will attract electrons towards each other, giving rise to two opposite charges on the bond.

The dipole link moment can then be defined as the magnitude of the polarity in a link. This moment represents the distribution of electronic density in a link. The distribution of charges is due to the fact that the atoms that form them have different electronegativity, so that when a covalent bond is created and the electrons are shared, the two electrons in the bond are attracted with different force by the atoms that share them.

The dipole moment of connection is the product between the value of the charges and the distance that separates them, that is the length of the link. Therefore, a dipole moment is a measurable physical property.

Then the polar bonds are established between atoms of different electronegativity. In a polar molecule there is separation between positive and negative charges. The bonds will be all the more polar the greater the difference in electronegativity between the bound atoms.

On the other hand, the non-polar covalent bond occurs between atoms of the same element or between atoms with very little electronegativity difference. It is thus characterized to molecules or bonds that do not exhibit any polarity. So a dipole moment is not measurable unless the molecule is polar.

Finally:

A bond dipole is the unequal charge distribution between two bonded atoms with different electronegativities .A molecular dipole moment is the three dimensional sum of all the bond dipoles in a molecule.(A dipole moment is measurable physical property;a dipole moment is not measurable unless the molecule is polar.

A student thinks that halogens are highly reactive because their electrons are weakly attracted to their nuclei. Which is eviden
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer: Halogens tend to attract electrons when bonding (Option C)

Explanation: Halogens being non metals have greater electronegativities hence, attract electrons and making the statement disputed. Nobel gases are highly stable; this explains why they are nonreactive. They do not form chemical bonds because they only have a little tendency to either gain or lose an electron; on the other hand, halogens are reactive because they only need one additional electron to complete their octet.

What are two ways in which density has practical importance?
Marta_Voda [28]
density is how much matter is packed into one area. so the higher density the more likely it is to be heavier. for example, cork has a very low density and iron has a higher density.

Lithium arsenate (Li3AsO4) and iron nitrate (Fe(NO3)3) are dissolved in water. What precipitate would you expect to form? what i
Alla [95]

Answer:

 • CO₃²⁻ + H₂O <----------------> HCO₃⁻ + OH⁻
 • The chemical formula of the precipitate is Fe(OH)₃

Explanation:

 • Fe(NO₃)₃ and K₂CO₃ are strong electrolytes and completely dissociate in water. Carbonate ions is a weak base and combine with water to form hydroxide ions (OH⁻), CO₃²⁻ + H₂O <----------------> HCO₃⁻ + OH⁻
 • Ferric, Fe (III), combines with these hydroxide ions to form insoluble precipitates. Fe(OH)₃ is only partially soluble i.e., it does not completely dissociate in water. When the solutions of Fe(NO₃)₃ and K₂CO₃ are mixed, Fe(OH)₃ precipitates out due to the strong electrostatic attraction between Fe (III) and hydroxide ions.
