Answer:The name of the given molecule is  1-octene

1) We will number the carbon chain in such a way that so that smallest number should reside on the carbon atom with double bond. By numbering we the chain we can see that carbon with double are given with number '1'.

2) Now we will count the number of carbon atoms in a given chain. There are 8 carbon atoms present in the given molecule.

According to IUPAC naming of organic molecules :

1) First write the number on which double bond is present. Here is number '1' like this '1-'.

2) After this write the prefix which will tell us about the number of total carbon atoms present in the chain followed by suffix 'ene'(suffix used for hydrocarbon with one double bond). Here there are 8 carbon atoms and prefix for eight carbon atoms is 'octa'

So, the name of the given molecule is : 1-octene

Gaseous ammonia chemically reacts with oxygen o2 gas to produce nitrogen monoxide gas and water vapor. Calculate the moles of ni
Sergio [31]

Answer: 0.050 moles of nitrogen monoxide are produced by 0.050 moles of ammonia.

Explanation:

According to the law of conservation of mass, mass can neither be created nor be destroyed. Thus the mass of products has to be equal to the mass of reactants. The number of atoms of each element has to be same on reactant and product side. Thus chemical equations are balanced.

The balanced chemical reaction is:

4NH_3(g)+5O_2(g)\rightarrow 4NO(g)+5H_2O(g)

According to stoichiometry:

4 moles of ammonia produce = 4 moles of nitrogen monoxide

Thus 0.050 moles of ammonia produce =\frac{4}{4}\times 0.050=0.050 moles of nitrogen monoxide

The Ka of hydrazoic acid (HN3) is 1.9 × 10-5 at 25.0 °C. What is the pH of a 0.40 M aqueous solution of HN3?
siniylev [52]

Answer:

The pH of the solution is 2.56.

Explanation:

Given :

Concentration (c) = 0.40 M

Acid dissociation constant = K_a=1.9\times 10^{-5}

The equilibrium reaction for dissociation of HN_3 (weak acid) is,

                           HN_3+H_2O\rightleftharpoons N_3^{-}+H_3O^+

initially conc.         c                       0         0

At eqm.              c(1-\alpha)                c\alpha        c\alpha

Dissociation constant is given as:

K_a=\frac{(c\alpha)(c\alpha)}{c(1-\alpha)}

1.9\times 10^{-5}=\frac{(0.40\alpha)(0.40\alpha)}{0.40(1-\alpha)}

By solving the terms, we get value of (\alpha)}

\alpha=0.00686832

No we have to calculate the concentration of hydronium ion or hydrogen ion.

[H^+]=c\alpha=0.4\times 0.00686832=0.002747 M

Now we have to calculate the pH.

pH=-\log [H^+]

pH=-\log (0.002747)

pH=2.56

Therefore, the pH of the solution is, 2.56.
