Answer: Fe - O

Explanation:

1) Start by showing the chart information in a more understandable way:

Elements ---------- Electronegativity

aluminum (Al) ----- 1.61

calcium (Ca) ------- 1

carbon (C) ---------- 2.55

chlorine (Cl) -------- 3.16

fluorine (F) --------- 4

hydrogen (H) ------ 2.2

iron (Fe) ------------- 1.83

nitrogen (N) --------- 3.04

oxygen (O) ----------- 3.44

phosphorus (P) ----- 2.19

potassium (K) -------- 0.82

silicon (Si) ------------- 1.9

sulfur (S) --------------- 2.58

2) Find the electronegativity differences for the atoms in each compound:

i) Ca – Cl: 3.16 - 1 = 2.16

ii) Fe – O: 3.44 - 1.83 = 1.61

iii) H – S: 2.58 - 2.2 = 0.38

iii= F – F = 4 - 4 = 0

3) Analysis

i) The higher the electronegativity difference between two non-metal elements, the the more the polar the covalent bond. Therefore, the bond H - S is the most polar among the non-metal - non-metal bonds listed. But 0.38 is a small difference, so this is not very polar.

ii) For metal - non-metal bonds, when the difference in electronegativities is too high (close to or greater than 2.0) the ionic character is dominant, and so you cannot classify the bond as polar but as ionic. Therefore, Ca - Cl with 2.16 electronegativity difference is a ionic bond.

iii) The bond in Fe – O has electronegativty difference of 1.61, so it is yet covalent, and highly polar.

Answer:

The highest difference is in between N and H thus this will have greatest polarity.

Explanation:

More the electro-negativity between any two elements more the polarity in the bond. Electron negativity is the tendency to pull shared pair of electrons towards it self. If the difference between two bonded elements is way too high then it may result in complete transfer of electrons from the less electronegative element to more electronegative one. Thus the bond will be ionic and highly polar.

Among given options, the electro negativity differences are:

A) Al-Si : 1.9-1.61=  0.29

B) S-Cl : 3.16- 2.58 = 0.58

C) N-H : 3.04 - 2.2 = 0.84

D) C-N : 3.04-2.55 = 0.49

The highest difference is in between N and H thus this will have greatest polarity.

When 0.5141 g of biphenyl (C12H10) undergoes combustion in a bomb calorimeter, the temperature rises from 25.823 °C to 29.419 °C
natka813 [3]

Answer:

\Delta_{r}U of the reaction is -6313 kJ/mol

\Delta_{r}H of the reaction is -6312 kJ/mol

Explanation:

Temperature\,\,change= \Delta U = 29.419-25.823 =3.506^{o}C

q_{cal}= C \times \Delta T

=5.861 \times 3.596 = 21.076\,kJ

q_{rxn}= -q_{cal}= -21.076\,kJ

\Delta_{r}U= -21.076 \times \frac{154}{0.5141}= -6313\, kJ/mol

Therefore, \Delta_{r}U of the reaction is -6313 kJ/mol.

The chemical reaction in bomb calorimeter  is as follows.

C_{12}H_{10}(s)+\frac{27}{2}O_{2}(g)\rightarrow 12CO_{2}(g)+5H_{2}O(g)

Number\,of\,moles\Delta n=(12+5)-\frac{27}{2}=3.5

\Delta_{r}H=\Delta E+ \Delta n. RT

=-6313+3.5\times 8.314\times 10^{-3} \times 3.596=-6312\,kJ/mol

Therefore, \Delta_{r}H of the reaction is -6312 kJ/mol.

When you break an iron magnet into two pieces, you get ____.
Rudiy27

Answer:

two north poles and two south poles

Explanation:

A single magnet has a north pole and a south pole. If it is broken into two pieces, then each of the two pieces will have a north pole and a south pole.

No matter how many times or into how many pieces a magnet is broken, the resulting pieces will have two poles each.

What do you notice about the elements on the reactant and product side of the equation
Levart [38]
There is the same overall number of atoms of each element on the reactants side as on the products side, they are simply rearranged. Also, mass is conserved as atoms cannot be created or destroyed by a chemical reaction.
