Lucia wants to develop a process for dyeing shirts so that the color will not fade when the shirt is washed. She proceeds with t

he following activities:
1. Lucia notices that the dye in a design fades when the shirt is washed.
2. Lucia decides that the dye needs something to help it combine with the fabric.
3. She places a spot of dye on each of four shirts and then places each one separately in water, salt water, vinegar, and baking soda and water.
4. After one hour, all the shirts are removed and washed with a detergent.
5. Lucia notices that the dye has faded on the shirts in water, salt water, and baking soda, while the dye did not fade on the shirt soaked in vinegar
6. Lucia thinks that the vinegar binds with the dye so it does not fade when the shirt is washed.

Answer:

1. This is an observation

2. This is her Hypothesis

3. This is part of her Experiment

4. This is part of her Experiment

5. This is an observation.

6. This is her Theory

Explanation:

To solve this problem you have to understand the differences and relationships between the concepts of observation, hypothesis, experiment and theory.

An observation is something that you see is ocurring in nature or in any system. Also, it describes things that you see as results of an experiment. For example Lucia saw that the dye in a design fades when the shirt was washed and that this not happened when the shirt was soaked in vinegar.

A hypothesis is a paragraph that suggest why the process that you described in your observation is happening. For example Lucía thought that the dye needs something to help it combines with the fabric. This hypothesis needs to be verified.

An experiment is a procedement that you employ to test your hypothesis, to verify it. For example the assay developed by Lucía in which shirts were subjected to different liquids.

Finally a Theory, is a complete explanation of the observation and hypothesis suggested and evaluated trough experimentation. Is the result or conclusion after ejecution of all previous steps. For example, Lucía hinks that the vinegar binds with the dye so it does not fade when the shirt is washed

A sample of a substance has a volume of 60.5ml and a density of 1.20g/ml what is density of magneis
erica [24]

Answer:

m = 72.6 grams

Explanation:

Given that,

The density of the substance uis 1.2 g/mL

Volume, V = 60.5 mL

We need to find the mass of the substance. Density is equal to mass divided by its volume. So, it can be given by :

d=\dfrac{m}{V}\\\\m=d\times V\\\\m=1.2\ g/mL\times 60.5\ mL\\\\m=72.6\ g

So, the mass of the substance is 72.6 grams.

How does a conjugate acid differ from its conjugate base?
inna [77]

The conjugate acid is differ from its conjugate base as, conjugate acid is formed by strong base whereas conjugate base is formed by strong acid.

conjugate base is differ from conjugate acids by the presence of the proton. The conjugate acid is formed when proton is added to the bases whereas conjugate bases is formed when proton is released by the acids.

Example of corrugate acids are given below.

NH_{3} → NH_{2} ^{-} +H^{+}

In the above example NH_{2} ^{-} is conjugate acids.

Can A magnet can be changed by hitting it hard or exposing it to heat.
Ainat [17]
Well, a magnet could DEFINITELY change if it gets exposed to heat, because you could melt the metal and change its shape.
If you hit it hard though, it wouldn't make much of a difference because the magnet is metal, so you'll probably just chip it or leave a dent.
Hope this helps ;)

How many grams of sodium oxide can be synthesized from 17.4 g of sodium? assume that more than enough oxygen is present. the bal
Tatiana [17]
Equation is as follow,

                          4 Na (s)  +  O₂ (g)    →    2Na₂O (s)

According to equation,

      91.92 g (4 moles) of Na produces  =  123.92 g (2 moles) of Na₂O
So,
                    17.4 g of Na will produce  =  X g of Na₂O

Solving for X,
                                   X  =  (17.4 g × 123.92 g) ÷ 91.92 g

                                   X  =  23.45 g of Na₂O
