Allen was involved in community service long before becoming mayor. He headed Atlanta's Community Chest drive in 1947. In this role he was the first white man asked to attend the black division's kickoff dinner. After he was elected president of the chamber of commerce in 1960, he launched the "Forward Atlanta" campaign to promote the city's image and attract new business and investment.
Allen ran for mayor in 1961 and defeated Lester Maddox. He took office in 1962 and later that year flew to Paris, France, to help identify the bodies of the Atlantans who perished in the Orly plane crash. Many of these people, members of the Atlanta Art Association, had been personal friends, and he felt that their families would want him there.
Allen served two four-year terms and quickly established himself as a liberal-minded leader over a city that was 40 percent black but almost fully segregated. On his first day in office, he ordered all "white" and "colored" signs removed from city hall, and he desegregated the building's cafeteria. He authorized the city's black policemen to arrest whites and hired the city's first black firefighters. He worked closely with Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and spearheaded a banquet of Atlanta's black and white leaders to honor King after he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
Allen was the only southern elected official to testify before Congress in support of the public accommodations section of U.S. president John F. Kennedy's proposed civil rights bill. He knew that his testimony, in July 1963, would prove very unpopular among his Georgia constituents. The bill became law the following year as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, but even before it passed, many Atlanta restaurants, hotels, and other public facilities had desegregated by mutual agreement between their owners and Mayor Allen.
In 1962 the mayor made one serious blunder in regard to Atlanta's race relations. Urged by whites in southwest Atlanta, the city constructed a concrete barrier that closed Peyton Road to black home seekers from nearby Gordon Road. The incident, later known as the Peyton Road affair, drew national attention and caused newspapers around the country to question Atlanta's motto, "the City Too Busy to Hate." The "Atlanta wall," as some newspapers called it, was ruled unconstitutional by the courts and was torn down.

The fact that mothers in Japan feed their babies freeze-dried sardines and rice and most mothers in the United States would not
Ghella [55]

Answer:

culture

Explanation:

Culture goes a long way to influence what consumers want and buy. In other words culture is a major determinant of what businesses and industries might actually prosper in an economy. From the above, freeze-dried sardine is preferred by Japanese mothers and so there is a large market for freeze-dried sardine in Japan. However this would not obtain in the American market as consumers for this product are already slashed by American mothers who don't like it.

Which best explains how the united states became increasingly politically divided during the 1950s?
Inga [223]

The United States was divided by the liberal policies of older politicians and more conservative views of young Americans.

Who are liberals?

 • Since "liberal" and "liberty" have the same root, it can refer to anything from being "generous" to "loose" to "broad-minded."
 • A person who thinks that the government should actively encourage social and political transformation is referred to politically as such.
 • The term "liberal" is frequently applied to political parties in a number of other nations, albeit the stances taken by these parties don't always match the definition of "liberal" that Americans typically use.
 • The term has been linked to both the Democratic and Republican parties in the US, though typically in a descriptive rather than a titular meaning.
 • Liberalism is a political and moral ideology founded on the rights of the person, liberty, consent of the governed and equality before the law.

Depending on how they interpret these tenets, liberals hold a wide range of opinions, but in general, they back private property, a market economy, individual liberties, liberal democracy, secularism, the rule of law, economic and political freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, and religion.

What do you understand by the terms ‘Law’ in general and ‘Business law in particular’?

Angelina_Jolie [31]

Answer:

Law : A certain set of rules that must be followed by the people within a certain community which influence the way those people behave.

Business Law: : Laws that applied when people are engaging in commerce, merchandising, trade, and sales.

Business laws only affect people's behavior within the realm of business, while laws will affect all people in general. Business laws tend to be stricter in countries which implement free market system. These laws were created to make sure that the businesses could compete fairly while ensuring that they're fulfilling their responsibilities to the society.
