Answer:

More than 30 seconds

Explanation:

Potato is an edible food substance that contains the enzyme CATALASE.

An enzyme is a biological catalyst that speeds up the rate of a reaction without being affected at the end of reaction.

Catalase reacts with hydrogen peroxide solution to produce water and oxygen The oxygen is seen as bubbles in the reaction container.

Boiling the potato solution for 10 minutes at high temperatures, denatures the enzyme catalase.

This is because enzymes function at an optimal temperature, for catalase, its 37 degrees Celsius. At this temperature the rate of reaction is fastest.

As the temperature increases from room temperature to the optimal temperature, the rate of reaction increases; beyond the optimal temperature, the enzyme denatures and little or no reaction occurs after that.

Denaturing, as a result of high temperatures, affects the molecular structure of the catalase, causing the cell wall to be ruptured.

Even when the potato solution is cooled than, the cell wall remains ruptured.

Adding hydrogen peroxide at this stage to the cooled potato solution at this stage will not produce any bubbles as the enzyme required to break down the hydrogen peroxide is destroyed.

As a result of this the potato disks will take a longer time to float to the surface of the hydrogen peroxide solution.

Answer:

Option D: More than 30 seconds

Explanation:

The enzyme CATALASE is found in almost all living organisms. CATALASE helps in the decomposition of one substance into another substance. CATALASE will breaks down hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.

When the potatoes were boiled it will surely produce no bubbles because the heat would have degrade the enzyme - catalase While the potatoes at room temperature potato produced the most bubbles because catalase works best at a room temperature.

If the potato solution was boiled for 10 minutes and cooled for 10 minutes before being tested, the average time for the disks to float to the surface of the hydrogen peroxide solution would be MORE THAN 30 SECONDS

A 50% antifreeze solution is to be mixed with a 90% antifreeze solution to get 200 liters of a 80% solution. How many liters of
sergey [27]

Answer:

50 ltr 150 ltr

Explanation:

this problem can be solved by the mixture and allegation concept which can be clearly understand from bellow figure in which the concentration of solution 1 is 50% and concentration of solution 2 is 90% before mixing after mixing with help bellow concept the ratio of concentration become 10:30

ratio of solution 1 and solution 2 =10:30

                                                     =1:3

total mixture is 200 liters

part of solution 1=\frac{1}{4} ×200

                           =50 liters

part of solution 2=\frac{3}{4} ×200

                           =150 liters

The literature value for the Ksp of Ca(OH)2 at 25 °C is 4.68E−6. Imagine you ran the experiment and got a calculated value for K
svet-max [94.6K]

Answer:

D. The Ca[OH]2 solution may have been unsaturated

Explanation:

The solubility product constant Ksp of any given chemical compound is a term used to describe the equilibrium between a solid and the ions it contains solution. The value of the Ksp indicates the extent to which any compound can dissociate into ions in water. A higher the Ksp, implies more greater solubility of the compound in water.

If the Ksp is more than the value in literature, this false value must have arisen from the fact that the solution was unsaturated hence it appears to be more soluble than it should normally be when saturated.

Find the vapor pressure of a water solution in which the
zheka24 [161]

Answer:

The vapor pressure in solution is 0,0051 atm

Explanation:

This is the formula for vapor pressure lowering, the colligative property.

P vapor = Pressure sv pure . Xsv

Where Xsv is data.

Xsv means Molar fraction (moles solvent/total n° moles)

Vapor pressure of water, pure is 17.5 mmHg

P vapor = 0,0313 atm . 0163

P vapor in solution = 0,0051 atm

Molar fraction does not have units

A solution will have less vapor pressure than that observed in the pure solvent.
