Slope-intercept form is:

y = mx + b

"m" being the slope, "b" being the y-intercept(when x = 0)

You first isolate the "y" in the given equation.

y - 2 = 3(x + 7)    Multiply the 3 into (x + 7)

y  - 2 = 3x + 21    Add 2 on both sides to get "y" by itself

y = 3x + 23

For the equation of the line to be perpendicular to the given equation, the slope has to be the opposite(you flip the sign and the number of the given slope)

For example:

slope = -2

the perpendicular line's slope = 1/2(positive)

slope = 4/5

the perpendicular line's slope = -5/4(negative)

The given slope is 3 or \frac{3}{1}, when you flip the sign and the number, the perpendicular line's slope is -\frac{1}{3}

y = -\frac{1}{3} x + b

Now you need to find b, to do so you plug in the point (4,2) into the equation

y = -\frac{1}{3}x + b

2 = -\frac{1}{3} (4) + b

2 = -\frac{4}{3} + b   Add 4/3 on both sides

2 + \frac{4}{3} = b   Make the denominators the same

\frac{6}{3}+ \frac{4}{3} = b

\frac{10}{3} = b

Your equation is:

y = -\frac{1}{3} x + \frac{10}{3}

The radius of a sphere is increasing at a rate of 2 mm/s. How fast is the volume increasing (in mm3/s) when the diameter is 40 m
daser333 [38]

Answer:

\dfrac{dV}{dt}=502.65\ mm^3/s

Step-by-step explanation:

The volume of a sphere is given by :

V=\dfrac{4}{3}\pi r^3

The rate of change of volume means,

\dfrac{dV}{dt}=\dfrac{d}{dt}(\dfrac{4}{3}\pi r^3)\\\\\dfrac{dV}{dt}=\dfrac{4}{3}\pi \times 3r\times \dfrac{dr}{dt}

We have, \dfrac{dr}{dt}=2\ mm/s\ and\ r=40\ mm

So,

\dfrac{dV}{dt}=\dfrac{4}{3}\pi \times 3\times 20\times 2\\\\=502.65\ mm^3/s

So, the volume is increasing at the rate of 502.65\ mm^3/s.
