Aaron is flying a helicopter with an air-relative velocity of 12.5 m/s to the West. A constant wind is also blowing the helicopt

er towards the South at 4.55 m/s relative to the ground. What is the velocity vector of the helicopter relative to the ground? What is the speed and direction relative to the East? How long does it take to travel 1 km?

Answer:

Explanation:

Given

Velocity of helicopter relative to air 12.5 m/s to west

In vector form

V_{ha}=-12.5\hat{i}

where V_h= velocity of helicopter relative to ground

Also the velocity of air

V_a=4.55\hat{j}

V_{ha}=V_h-V_a

V_h=V_{ha}+V_a

V_h=-12.5\hat{i}+4.55\hat{j}

Speed relative to east=\sqrt{12.5^2+4.55^2}

=13.302

For Direction

tan\theta =\frac{4.55}{-12.5}

180-\theta =20

\theta =160^{\circ} relative to east

For 1 km travel it takes

t=\frac{1000}{13.302}=75.17 s

A long wire carries a current 5 A from west to east. A magnetic compass pointing North is placed underneath the wire at a distan
Gemiola [76]

Answer:

no deflection

Explanation:

current is flowing from west to east. As the magnetic field of a long wire carrying current is circular, its direction will be north below the wire and south above the wire (according to the right hand rule). So, when the compass is placed underneath the wire, it will still point towards the north direction.

What electrons are in “motion”, what do you have?
Sergeeva-Olga [200]

Answer:

When a positive charged object is placed near a conductor electrons are attracted the the object. ... When electric voltage is applied, an electric field within the metal triggers the movement of the electrons, making them shift from one end to another end of the conductor. Electrons will move toward the positive side. As you know, electrons are always moving. They spin very quickly around the nucleus of an atom. As the electrons zip around, they can move in any direction, as long as they stay in their shell.

find the coefficient of kinetic friction for a 10 kg box being dragged steadily across the surface with a force of 2.0 Newtons
Mazyrski [523]

Answer:

0.02

Explanation:

Force, F=\mu_k N where N is normal reaction and coefficient of kinetic friction is \mu_k. Also, N is equivalent to mg ie N=mg where m is mass of an object and g is acceleration due to gravity. Making \muthe subject of the formula then

\mu_k=\frac {F}{mg}

Substituting F with 2 N, m with 10 kg and g with 9.81 then

\mu_k=\frac {2}{10\times 9.81}=0.0203873598369\approx 0.02
