The Three Domain system consists of which of the following?

The three-domain system is a biological classification introduced by Carl Woese et al.in 1977[1][2] that divides cellular life forms into archaea, bacteria, and eukaryote domains. In particular, it emphasizes the separation of prokaryotes into two groups, originally called Eubacteria (now Bacteria) and Archaebacteria(now Archaea). Woese argued that, on the basis of differences in 16S rRNA genes, these two groups and the eukaryotes each arose separately from an ancestor with poorly developed genetic machinery, often called a progenote. To reflect these primary lines of descent, he treated each as a domain, divided into several different kingdoms. Woese initially used the term "kingdom" to refer to the three primary phylogenic groupings, and this nomenclature was widely used until the term "domain" was adopted in 1990.[2]

Parts of the three-domain theory have been challenged by scientists such as Radhey Gupta, who argues that the primary division within prokaryotes should be between those surrounded by a single membrane, and those with two membranes.

A client with a recent diagnosis of type 2 diabetes has begun taking metformin. This drug will help the client achieve adequate
MatroZZZ [7]

Answer:

C. Improving insulin sensitivity.

D. Decreasing glucose absorption in the GI tract.

Explanation:

     Metformin (dimethylbiguanide) is an oral antidiabetic agent derived from guanidine. Metformin does not stimulate insulin secretion. In diabetics, metformin reduces hyperglycemia without the risk of causing hypoglycaemic accidents except in the event of fasting or in combination with insulin or other medicines.

      Metformin reduces hyperglycemia by:

  • increased peripheral insulin sensitivity and cellular glucose utilization;
  • inhibition of hepatic gluconeogenesis;
  • delayed intestinal absorption of glucose

   Peripheral action of metformin on insulin resistance is associated with possible post-receptor action, regardless of  insulin binding with insulin receptors. In addition to its antidiabetic action, metformin has a protective effect on angiopathy risk factors in humans, either directly or through its action on insulin resistance.

Describe three conditions that create opportunities for pathogens to become harmful in a human.
Anna007 [38]

There are numerous circumstances that give pathogens the chance to harm people.

The first occurs when an infection has already weakened the immune system. In situations like this, other pathogens may infect the host opportunistically and cause an infection. If the human host does not maintain proper personal and environmental hygiene, that is another condition. Many pathogens thrive in unclean environments, so by failing to maintain proper environmental hygiene, a person increases his risk of contracting a pathogen.

Finally, since so many pathogens are transferred by vectors, humans are more likely to contract the diseases that these vectors aid in spreading if they do not take the necessary precautions to stop their activity.
