It is called "wavelength".

In fact, the wavelength is defined as the distance between two consecutive crests of a wave. In the case of a speed wave, we can see the compression points as the crests of the wave, so the distance between two consecutive compression points corresponds to the wavelength.

In the attached position versus time graph what is the magnitude of average velocity for the entire 19 seconds of the motion. An
evablogger [386]

According to the plot, the positions at time <em>t</em> = 0 s and <em>t</em> = 19 s are -1 m and -2 m, respectively. So the average velocity for the 19-s interval is

v_{\rm ave} = \dfrac{-2\,\mathrm m - (-1\,\mathrm m)}{19\,\mathrm s} = -\dfrac1{19}\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}\approx \boxed{-0.05\dfrac{\rm m}{\rm s}}

To increase the frequency by 4 octave(s), to 16f0, by what factor would you have to decrease the length?
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

= 16 , length will be decreased by a factor of 16

Explanation:

  • One octave apart corresponds to twice the frequency and thus half the length. Two octaves apart will correspond to 4 times the frequency and the length will be reduced by a factor of 4, that is  1/4 of the length.
  • Three octaves apart on the other hand corresponds to 8 times the frequency, thus length will be decreased by a factor of of 8, that is 1/8 of the length .
  • Four octaves apart corresponds to 16 times the frequency, therefore the length will be decreased by a factor of 16, that is  1/16 of the length.
