Answer:

These intentions notwithstanding, most critics found many of the topics and conclusions in the book unpalatable. The Bell Curve was instantly controversial. One of the greatly debated theories put forth by the authors in this book involved how intelligence quotient (IQ) was related to poverty, educational achievement, and parenting. Herrnstein and Murray described American society as a pyramid. A high-IQ minority sat at the top, above a much larger, low-IQ base. Variation in IQ can be represented using a bell curve. Roughly 68 percent of all people score within 15 points of the mean (a perfectly average IQ of 100). Another 15 percent scored within 15 points of that standard deviation, with the remainder lower or higher.

According to The Bell Curve, nature superseded nurture as a contributor to intelligence. A high IQ was associated with lower risks of crime, incarceration, divorce, poverty, unemployment, and school dropout rate. It presented data to support claims that those with low IQ scores are more likely to drop out before completing high school. They are also less likely to earn a college degree and more likely to have children whom they cannot financially support on their own. More specifically, Herrnstein and Murray saw increased instances of low birth weight, poor motor skills, and poor social development among children with low-IQ parents.

What is the difference between heat and temperature? What is Entropy?
VikaD [51]

Answer:

Heat is a form of Energy whereas Temperature measures the degree of it.

Entropy is the degree of randomness of a system.

Explanation:

The distinction between Heat and Temperature is defined as under:

Heat:

The total energy of a substance which is associated with the motion or movement of its molecules is known as Heat.

It depends on the nature, shape, number and size of the particles in the substance.

Molecular motion, oscillation and rotation increases with the increase in

the amount of heat supply to the substance.

Temperature:

Unlike Heat, it is not a form energy but it is the degree of measurement of heat energy. or the degree of how much hot or cold a substance is.

Any change in the heat supplied will result in a corresponding change in the temperature of that substance.

It is independent of the nature and size of the particles in any substance.

Entropy:

It is quantity thermodynamic in nature which represents the unavailability or absence of thermal energy associated with any system for it to be converted into useful mechanical work.

It is also interpreted as the degree of randomness of a system. The more the entropy the more is the randomness in the molecules of the system.
