Charlie is investigating friction. She will use the same amount of force to push two wooden balls across two level surfaces. The

n she will record her results in the table below.Which prediction will most likely describe how friction will affect her findings?
a. The distance for Trial 3 will be greater than the distance for Trial 1 partly because the weight difference of the balls will affect friction.

b.The distance for Trial 2 will be greater than the distance for Trial 1 because the difference in surface roughness will affect friction.

c.The distance for Trial 4 will be greater than the distance for Trial 2 partly because the weight difference of the balls will affect friction.

Answer: d.The distance for Trial 3 will be greater than the distance for Trial 4 because the difference in surface roughness will affect friction.

Explanation:

The force of friction depends upon the roughness of the surface. Force of friction acts in the opposite direction of motion when the two surface tend to have relative motion. In the given situation, equal amount of force is applied to push the wooden balls.

Net force acting on the balls with which they move:

F' = F -f

where f is the force of friction and F is the applied force.

f = μ N

where N is the reaction force

μ is the coefficient of friction which depends upon roughness of the two surfaces. Smoother the surface, lesser would be the frictional force. Thus, for trial 3 and 4, the distance would be greater for trial 3 as there is polished surface which would offer lesser friction.

When changing a tire sized 195/75 R15 to a 5 percent lower profile, the correct tire size would be _____
valentinak56 [21]

Answer and explanation:

When you are changing a car tire, the most important thing is to keep the total diameter as equal as possible.

The total car tire diameter can be calculated as:

D_{tot orig}=\frac{195 \cdot 75}{2540 \cdot 2}+15''=26.5''

The profile of this tire is 75 (the higher/taller relation), therefore a 5 percent lower profile would be:

pr=0.95·75=71.25

The problem is that the profiles are normalized and the nearest profile available is 70.

If we take a theorical tire with a profile of 71.25:

D_{tot orig}=D_{new}\\\frac{195 \cdot 75}{2540 \cdot 2}+15''=\frac{X \cdot 71.25}{2540 \cdot 2}+15''\\X=205.26

The theorical tire size should be 205/71 R15.

If we look for a real tire size, we should look for a tire with a diameter nearest to 26.5'' and a profile of 70.

The best option for real tire size is: Tire 225/70 R14 (wheel diameter of 26.4'') or 205/70 R15 (wheel diameter of 26.3'').

If the velocity of a pitched ball has a magnitude of 47.0 m/s and the batted ball's velocity is 50.5 m/s in the opposite directi
Naya [18.7K]

Answer:

The magnitude of change in momentum of the ball is 97.5 m and impulse is also 97.5 m

Explanation:

Given:

Velocity of a pitched ball v _{i} = 47 \frac{m}{s}

Velocity of ball after impact v_{f}  = -50.5 \frac{m}{s}

From the formula of change in momentum,

  \Delta P = m (v_{f} -v_{i}  )

Here mass is not given in question,

Mass of ball is m

Change in momentum is given by,

\Delta P = m (-50.5 -47)

\Delta P = -97.5 m

Magnitude of change in momentum is

\Delta P = 97.5 m

And impulse is given by

 J = \Delta P

J = -97.5 m

So impulse and

Therefore, the magnitude of change in momentum of the ball is 97.5 m and impulse is also -97.5 m

Which phase of matter consists of particles that vibrate only?
bearhunter [10]

Answer: Solids

Explanation: Solids have very little movement and the particles have barely enough movement to vibrate. We can't see it but the particles are indeed vibrating. Solids have the least amount of kinetic energy which is moving energy.
