A rectangular pool is 40 feet by 20 feet. The portion of the pool that is reserved for recreational swimming is 20 ft by 10 ft.

The rest of the pool is reserved for the swim team. How many square feet are reserved for the swim team?

Total pool = 40 by 20, or 800 feet
Recreational = 20 by 10, or 200 feet

Subtract the recreational part of the pool from the total pool, your answer should be:

600 square feet are reserved for the swim team.
