Sort these molecules according to their polarity.

Chemistry

Answer:

Polar molecules- NH3, HBr

Nonpolar molecules- CO2, BF3, H2, CH4

Explanation:

NH3 is polar because the three N-H bonds are in non symmetrical trigonal pyramidal arrangement, hence there is a resultant dipole moment that makes the molecule polar. The electro negativity difference between hydrogen and bromine makes HBr a polar molecule.

CO2 and BF3 are non polar because the individual dipoles in the molecule cancels out. CH4 is composed of two atoms of almost similar electro negativities hence it is non polar. H2 is contains a homonuclear covalent bond hence the molecule is nonpolar.

0.28gram of NH3 on decomposition gave 0.25gram of nitrogen and hydrogen. Find the volume of hydrogen evolved at Ntp. (2gram hydr
hodyreva [135]

The volume of H₂ evolved at NTP=0.336 L

Further explanation

Reaction

Decomposition of NH₃

2NH₃ ⇒ N₂ + 3H₂

conservation mass : mass reactants=mass product

0.28 NH₃= 0.25 N₂ + 0.03 H₂

2 g H₂ = 22.4 L

so for 0.03 g :

\tt \dfrac{0.03}{2}\times 22.4=0.336

How could your school reduce the amounts of municipal soild waste it produces ? Inculding where you think the most waste is prod
katrin [286]
Reducing solid waste is reducing the amount of garbage that goes into our landfills. These are items we use each day, and then get rid of by putting them into the trash. Solid waste comes from homes, businesses and industries. If you want to reduce solid waste, you need to look at some of the following ways to reduce, reuse and recycle.

Which of these planets has the coldest surface temperature?
lianna [129]

Neptune planet has the coldest surface temperature

Explanation:

With temperatures falling to -218°C in Neptune’s upper atmosphere, the planet is one of the coolest in our Solar System. Neptune is the most faraway planet from the sun. Astronomers have speculated that Neptune's huge internal temperature and the transfer of heat between the core and outer layers might be the cause why Neptune isn't significantly more chill than Uranus.

Pressures in this area range between 1 and 5 bars and the temperature reaches a high of 72 K. At this temperature, states are becoming for methane to condense, and clouds of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide are thought to form. At its core, Neptune reaches temperatures of up to 7273 K which is equivalent to the surface of the sun.

Problem Page Suppose 25.1g of barium nitrate is dissolved in 200.mL of a 0.50 M aqueous solution of ammonium sulfate. Calculate
melomori [17]

Answer:

1.26 M

Explanation:

The ion nitrate is NO₃⁻ and the Barium is from group 2 so it forms the ion Ba²⁺, so the barium nitrate has the formula: Ba(NO₃)₂. The molar masses are: Ba: 137 g/mol, N = 14 g/mol, O = 16 g/mol, so the molar mass of barium nitrate is:

137 + 2x(14 + 3x16) = 199 g/mol

The number of moles is the mass divided by the molar mass, so:

n = 25.1/199 = 0.126 mol of Ba(NO₃)₂

In 1 mol of the salt, there are 2 moles of NO₃⁻, so the number of moles of nitrate is 0.252 mol. Nitrates formed with ammonium (that can react when the solid dissolves) and with elements from group 1 and 2 are completely soluble in water. So, the moles of nitrate will remain 0.252 mol.

The molarity is the number of moles divided by the volume (0.2 L):

[NO₃⁻]= 0.252/0.2 = 1.26 M
