Answer: The substance which is dissolved in a solution is called solute.

Explanation:

Solution is made up two parts:

1) Solute : The substance which is dissolves in a solvent to give a solution.

  • It is always present in less amount.

2) Solvent : The liquid substance in which solute is dissolved is known as solvent.

  • It is always present in large amount.

                             Solution = Solute + Solvent

For example : Salt as solute and water as solvent in salt solution.

What is the mass of ca(oh)2 in 110. mL of 1.244 M ca(oh)2 solution
stealth61 [152]
<em>V= 110mL = 110cm³ = 0,11dm³</em>
<em>C = 1,244 mol/L = 1,244 mol/dm³</em>

C = n/V
n = 1,244×0,11
<u>n = 0,13684 moles</u>

<em>mCa(OH)₂ = 74 g/mol</em>

1 mole Ca(OH)₂ ------------ 74g
0,13684 ---------------------- X
X = 74×0,13684

To separate a mixture of iron filings and salt, the most efficient method would be
GaryK [48]

Answer:

Explanation:

Of course you could do the separation chemically. Dissolve the salt up in water, pass thru a filter, wash the iron filings with ethanol, which would encourage the salt to precipitate from solution.

I do hope I helped you! :)

In a mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen gases, the mole fraction of nitrogen is 0.333. If the partial pressure of hydrogen in the
notka56 [123]

Answer:

P_T=112.4torr

Explanation:

Hello there!

In this case, since these problems about gas mixtures are based off Dalton's law in terms of mole fraction, partial pressure and total pressure, we can write the following for hydrogen, we are given its partial pressure:

P_{H_2}=x_{H_2}*P_T

And can be solved for the total pressure as follows:

P_T=\frac{P_{H_2}}{x_{H_2}}

However, we first calculate the mole fraction of hydrogen by subtracting that of nitrogen to 1 due to:

x_{H_2}+x_{N_2}=1\\\\x_{H_2}=1-0.333=0.667

Then, we can plug in to obtain the total pressure:

P_T=\frac{75.0torr}{0.667}\\\\P_T=112.4torr

Regards!
