A researcher found a method she could use to manipulate and quantify acetylation and methylation in embryonic cells in culture.

In one set of experiments using this procedure in Drosophila, she was readily successful in increasing acetylation of amino acids adjacent to methylated amino acids in histone tails. Which of the following results would she most likely see?
a) decreased chromatin condensation
b) inactivation of the selected genes
c) activation of histone tails for enzymatic function
d) increased chromatin condensation
e) decreased binding of transcription factors

Answer:a) decreased chromatin condensation

Explanation:

During eukaryotic cell division a chromatin becomes obvious and it is simply a mass of genetic material made up of DNA and proteins which condenses to form chromosomes.

The chromatin primarily function in the compression the DNA into a unit so compacted that will be so tiny and can fit within the nucleus.

Chromatin condensation is driven by condensins and interactions between histones.

Condensins however, are large protein complexes whose central role in cell division is chromosome organization and segregation.

Chemical manipulation as stated above is decreases the rate of chromatin condensation.

List the advantages and disadvantages of the switch from persistent chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides (such as ddt) to nonpersi
expeople1 [14]
Persistent chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides persist in the environment and accumulate in the foods chain causing harmful effects on the environment including posing a threat to humans health in the long term. Nonpersistent organophosphate pesticides are more toxic than the former but degrade after a short life span. Therefore they cause immediate harm in case one is in contact with them.
The fact that they do not accumulate in the environment, they are more favourable than chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides. Chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides will affect several generations due to their accumulation in the environment. However they don't need to be re-applied hence are less expensive
