Before a snowstorm, most cities will place salt on the roads to lower the freezing point of water and to prevent dangerous ice p

atches on the roads. While this is a great idea for safety, it may have some effects to the plant life around the road due to the process of osmosis.
OSMOSIS IN A PLANT CELL: Equal solute concentration inside and outside the cell, Higher concentration inside the cell, and Higher solute concentration outside the cell.

Write a scientific explanation describing what happens in the cells of the plants that are next to a salted road.

Answer:

Explanation:

Water tends to move in nature. This movement is facilitated by an osmotic gradient created as a result of OSMOSIS. Osmosis is the movement of water from a region of low solute concentration (high solvent concentration) to a region of high solute concentration (low solute concentration) through a semi-permeable membrane.

Salt contributes to the tonicity of the soil it was sprinkled in the sense that it makes the solute concentration of the soil higher (hypertonic) than that of the plant cell (hypotonic). This creates an osmotic gradient causing the movement of water from the plant cell into the road containing salt in order to form an osmotic balance. The water passes through the cell membrane of the plant cell which acts as the semi-permeable membrane in this case.

The movement of water out of the cell will eventually make the plant cells around that road area shrink (reduce) and likely die, due to loss of water content.

The shape of the external ear is maintained by ________. Select one: a. hyaline cartilage b. adipose tissue c. fibrocartilage d.
d1i1m1o1n [39]

Answer:

D) elastic cartilage

Explanation:

Cartilage is a connective tissue which is fibrous in composition which provides its physical properties like the softness, elasticity and strength.

There are three types of cartilages- the elastic, hyaline and the fibrocartilage. Among these three the cartilage which forms the external ear is the elastic cartilage. The elastic cartilage is composed of the elastin protein, type II collagen and the elastic fibres. The presence of the elastin proteins and fibres allows the ear to be an elastic organ.

Thus, Option-D is the correct answer.

What is the process by which cells get energy from glucose?
kupik [55]

The correct answer is - A. Photosynthesis.

Through the process of photosynthesis, the plants manage to use the sunlight, and combining it with the nutrients that they have got through their root system, they manage to produce glucose. Then they use the glucose by converting it to energy, which is crucial for their survival and proper growth, especially for their fruits, vegetables, seeds, spores.

This process is only able to occur with enough sunlight at disposal for the plant, and even if there's very small amount of nutrients gathered from the soil or water, the plants are still able to perform this process.
