Chemistry

Answer:

Only dichloromethane will be present as bottom layer and other given solvents will be present as top layer in an aqueous extraction.

Explanation:

Whether the aqueous layer would be present on top or bottom, is decided by densities of the solvent.

Solvent which is less denser than water will be present as top layer in aqueous extraction and solvent which is more denser than water will be present as bottom layer.

Therefore,

a) Methanol is less dense than water, hence will be present as top layer in an aqueous layer.

b) Hexane is less dense than water, hence will be present as top layer in an aqueous layer.

c) Benzene is less dense than water, hence will be present as top layer in an aqueous extraction.

d) dichloromethane is more dense than water and hence will be present as bottom layer in aqueous extraction

e) diethyl ether is less dense and will be present as top layer in an aqueous layer.

So, only dichloromethane will be present as bottom layer and other given solvents will be present as top layer in an aqueous extraction.

A gold nugget has a density of 38.6g/cm3 and a mass of 270.2. what is its volume?
aivan3 [116]

Density is given by the equation D=m/V, were D is density, m is mass in grams, and V is volume in cubic centimeters.

In this problem, we have density and we have mass so we can plug into the equation and solve for V.

38.6=270.2/V

*Multiply both sides by V*

38.6V=270.2

*Divide both sides by 38.6*

V=7

The volume of the gold nugget is 7cm3.

Hope this helps!!

Determine the approximate amount of potassium hydrogen phthalate, KHP, that you will need to neutralize 6.00 ml of 0.100 M NaOH.
Sveta_85 [38]

Answer:

potassium hydrogen phthalate KHP MOLAR MASS = 204.233 glmol

to get 1000 ml

Molar concentration = Mass concentration/Molar Mass

mass concentration = molar concentration x molar mass

mass concentration=0.1 M,

molar mass= 204.233 g/mol

so to get 1L

mass conc = 204.233 x 0.1

= 20.4233g for 1L or 1000 ml

to get 6.00 ml

if 20.4233g is for 1000ml

then to 6.00 ml

= 20.4233 x 6 / 1000

= 0.123g for 6.00 ml

according to the equation below

NaOH(aq) + KHC8H4O4(aq) --> KNaC8H4O4(aq) + H2O(l)

number of moles of NaOH is equal to that of KHP

so the same amount will be needed too, which is

= 0.123g

Are two atoms of the same element identical??
Neko [114]
No. Although two such atoms are essentially chemically identical (they will chemically react in the same way), they are not completely identical.
