There are 3 factories on the Momiss River. Each emits 2 types of pollutants, labeled P1 and P2, into the river. If the waste fro

m each factory is processed, the pollution in the river can be reduced. It costs $1500 to process a ton of factory 1 waste, and each ton processed reduces the amount of P1 by 0.10 ton and the amount of P2 by 0.45 ton. It costs $1000 to process a ton of factory 2 waste, and each ton processed reduces the amount of P1 by 0.20 ton and the amount of P2 by 0.25 ton. It costs $2000 to process a ton of factory 3 waste, and each ton processed reduces the amount of P1 by 0.40 ton and the amount of P2 by 0.30 ton. The state wants to reduce the amount of P1 in the river by at least 30 tons and the amount of P2 by at least 40 tons.
Required:
Formulate an LP that will minimize the cost of reducing pollution by the desired amounts. Do you think that the LP assumptions (Proportionality, Additivity, Divisibility, and Certainty) are reasonable for this problem?

Answer:

Kindly check explanation

Explanation:

Using table for our evaluation :

____________POLLUTANT

Factories___P1 ______P2 ____COST

__1_______0.1______ 0.45 ___ 1500

__2______ 0.2 _____ 0.25 ____1000

__3 ______0.40 ____ 0.30 ____2000

_________ ≥ 30 ____ ≥ 40 _____ z

Let amount of waste produced by Factories 1, 2 and 3 equal f1, f2 and f3 respectively.

Linear Program that will minimize the cost of reducing pollution by the desired amounts

Min cost:

min z = 1500f1 + 1000f2 + 2000f3

0.1f1 + 0.2f2 + 0.4f3 ≥ 30

0.45f1 + 0.25f2 + 0.3f3 ≥ 40

f1, f2, f3 ≥ 0

Suppose DeepMind Inc. will pay $1.50 per share in dividends next year. The require return on the stock is 10% and its dividends
Brums [2.3K]

Answer:

C. All else being equal, the growth rate of the dividends is greater than 2%

Explanation:

The formula to calculate the fair price of a stock with a constant growth in dividends is as follows,

  • P = D1 / r-g
  • Where D1 is the dividend next period
  • r is the required rate of return
  • g is the growth rate in dividends
  • P = 1.5 / 0.1 - 0.02 = 18.75
  • We are taking 1.5 as D1 as it is the dividend per share DeepMind will pay next year.

So, we will be willing to pay more than 18.75 if the fair price per share today is greater than 18.75. We check all the 3 options.

A. say the required rate is 10.1%

  • P = 1.5 / (0.101 - 0.02) = 18.52
  • So if the required rate of return increases from 10%, the fair price per share is falling and we will be willing to pay less than 18.75 per share.

B. P = 1.2 / (0.1 - 0.02) = 15

  • If D1 = 1.2,the fair price per share will be 15 which is less so we will not be willing to pay more than 15 for such share.

C. Say the growth rate in dividends is 2.1%

  • P = 1.5 / (0.1 - 0.021) = 18.99
  • The fair price per share increased to 18.99 if the growth rate in dividend increases by 0.1 percentage point. Thus, C is the correct answer

poizon [28]

Answer:

The correct answer is: Retaining a higher percentage of earnings will result in a lower growth rate.; Long-run earnings growth will decrease when firms retain earnings and reinvest them in the business.

Explanation:

In the first statement, a deliberate action is shown that consists of the capitalization of the entity, that is, the equity is accumulated in order to distribute it among the shareholders and leave a part to support the company. In the second statement, it means that the positive results of the company will not be seen in the long term due to management's dispositions to execute a policy to capitalize the entity and improve its cash flow by reinvesting the perceived resources.
