Q7. Aluminum is extracted from the ore bauxite, which is impure aluminum oxide. 1 tonne (1000 kg) of the ore was found to have t
saveliy_v [14]

Answer:

(a) Total impurities = 17.5%

(b)

(i) 5 tons of ore yields 2185 kg of aluminium

(ii) 5 tons of ore contains 375 kg of sand

(c) Percentage of Al2O3 in purified ore = 825/900 = 91.7%

Explanation:

Q7. Aluminum is extracted from the ore bauxite, which is impure aluminum oxide.

1 tonne (1000 kg) of the ore was found to have this composition:

1. aluminum oxide 825 kg (82.5%)

2.iron(III) oxide 100 kg (10%)

3.sand 75 kg (7.5%)

(a) Since we are interested only in extracted aluminium, everything other than aluminium oxide is considered impurity, which includes Fe2O3 (10%) and sand (7.5%). Total impurities = 10+7.5 = 17.5%

(b) "1 tonne of the ore gives 437 kg of aluminum."

(i) 1 ton of ore : 437 kg Al = 5 tons of ore : x kg of Al

Cross multiply

x = 5 tons * 437 kg / 1 ton = 2185 kg of aluminium

(ii) 1 ton of ore contains 75 kg of sand

5 tons of or contains x kg

x = 5*75/1 = 375 kg of sand

(c) If the ore is purified from Fe2O3, then for each ton of ore, there will be left

825 kg of aluminium oxide,

75 kg of sand

for a total of 900 kg.

Percentage of Al2O3 = 825/900 = 91.7%

How is enthalpy used to predict whether a reaction is endothermic or exothermic?
Sever21 [200]
The value of enthalpy of a reaction can be a useful tool in determining the type of reaction it is. If the enthalpy is negative the reaction is exothermic and if the enthalpy is positive the reaction is endothermic. Hope this answers the question. Have a nice day.

Waste water treatment plant. A municipal water treatment plant for a small community. Waste water 32,000 m3/day, flows through t
zlopas [31]

Answer:

The reaction rate k is 0.0012563 (1/hour).

Explanation:

We considered the reactions occurring in the plant as first order, and represented by this equation:

y = L (1- e^{-kt})

where y is the BOD at time t, L is the initial value of BOD and k is the reaction rate.

If we replaced with the values

y = 2 mg O2/l (1% of the initial value)

L = 200 mg 02/l

t = 8 hr

We can calculate k

y=L(1-e^{-kt})\\\\k=-(1/t)*ln(1-y/L) = -(1/8)*ln(1-2/200)=-(1/8)*(-0.01)=0.0012563
\, hour^{-1}

The reaction rate k is 0.0012563 1/hour.

A certain block is floating in water with 77% of itself submerged. It has a length of 4.3 cm, a width of 5.9 cm, and a height of
dmitriy555 [2]

Answer:

f. 0.0537 kg

Explanation:

To solve this, we use the formula for force of buoyancy (Fb) = Vs × D × g

Where; Fb= Force of buoyancy

Vs= Volume of submerged

block

D= Density of water that block

submerges in

g= acceleration due to gravity

In this question, volume of block can be calculated using L×B×H

= 4.3cm × 5.9cm × 2.75cm = 69.7675cm^3

If 77% of the block is submerged in water, then 77/100 × 69.7675cm^3

= 53.72cm^3 is the Volume of submerged block

Density of water is known as 1000kg/m^3 while the gravitational force is 10m/s^2

We need to convert the Vs (volume of submerged block) to m^3 by dividing by 1,000,000

Hence, Vs = 53.72/1000000

Vs= 0.00005372m^3

Using the formula; (Fb) = Vs × D × g

Fb = 0.00005372m^3 × 1000kg/m^3 × 10m/s^2

Fb = 0.5372kg/m/s^2

Therefore, the force of buoyancy of the object on water is 0.5372kg/m/s^2

Recall that; Mass (m) = Volume (V) × Density (D)

Force of buoyancy (Fb) = Vs×D = mass (m) × acceleration due to gravity (g)

i.e. mass = Fb/g

= Mass of the block = 0.5372/10

Mass = 0.05372kg

Therefore, the mass of the block in kg is 0.05372kg
