Finding distance between each pair of points. how to know which is x1 y1 and x2 y2 when using (x2-x1)^2 + (y2-y1)^2? People are

saying it doesnt matter but wouldnt it be different if you answered it but switched them up?

<u>It doesn't matter what order the coordinates are in the distance formula as long as it stays in it's corresponding order.</u> In this case, (-7,5) could be (x1,y1) and (3,-5) could be (x2,y2) or vise versa, just as long as you don't mix up the coordinates (so no (-7,-5) or (3,5)). I'll demonstrate this below:

\sqrt{(-7-3)^2+(5-(-5))^2}\\\sqrt{(-10)^2+(10)^2}\\\sqrt{100+100}\\\sqrt{200}\\\\\sqrt{(3-(-7))^2+(-5-5)^2}\\\sqrt{(10)^2+(-10)^2}\\\sqrt{100+100}\\\sqrt{200}

<u>The distance between these points, no matter the order, is √200, or approximately 14.14 units.</u>

Nadusha1986 [10]
First do 3x3, which is 6.
Then do 1/2 x 1/2. Convert the 1/2's to .50's
Do .50 x .50. Start with 5 x 5, and get 25. Then move decimal 2 places over.
Now that you have 6 and .25, add them and get 6.25.
.25 as a fraction is, of course, 1/4
Your final answer should be 6 1/4

Which is the graph of y=log(-x)
bekas [8.4K]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

The given function is,

y=\log(-x)

The parent function of it is,

y=\log(x)

In y=\log(x) graph y-axis is an asymptote (vertical) , so never crosses the y-axis. Hence no y intercept. And x intercept of y=\log(x) is x=1.

The sign of x is changed in the given function y=\log(-x) as compared to its parent function y=\log(x)

While reflecting over y axis or x=0 line, only the sign of x changes.

So graph of y=\log(-x) is the reflection of y=\log(x) over y axis. Hence it has no y intercepts, x intercept at x= -1 and y-axis as asymptote (vertical).
