A container of carbon dioxide (CO2) has an initial temperature of 170 K with a pressure of 50 kPa. When the container is heated

the pressure is measured at 283 kPa. The volume is constant at 12 L throughout. What is the final temperature of the carbon dioxide (CO2)?

Bond [772]3 years ago

Answer: T2= 962.2 K

Explanation:

The ideal gases is often written like PV=nRT, where P is pressure, V is volume, n is moles, R is the universal constant of the gases and T is Temperature.

So, in this problem there is a container that is a closed system, therefore n is constant and volume too. The initial point is 1 and the final point is 2, so

V1=V2  ⇒

\frac{n1RT1}{P1} = \frac{n2RT2}{P2} \\\\\frac{T1}{P1} = \frac{T2}{P2} \\\\T2= \frac{T1P2}{P1} =\frac{170 K 283KPa}{50 KPa} =962.2 K

I know that the answer is C. 8, but can you explain step by step how to get that answer?
Leya [2.2K]

Answer:

8

Explanation:

Oxidation:

Fe^{2+} -->Fe^{3+}+e^{-}

Reduction:

Cr_{2}O_{7}^{2-}+6e^{-} -->2Cr^{3+}

We have to equalise the number  of moles of electrons gained and lost in a redox reaction in order to get a balanced reaction.

Hence we have to multiply the oxidation reaction throughout by 6.

and adding the two half-reactions we obtain:

6Fe^{2+}+Cr_{2}O_{7}^{2-} -->6Fe^{3+}+2Cr^{3+}

Still the total charge and number of oxygen is not balanced.

Since the reaction takes place in acidic conditions, we will add required number of H+ to the appropriate side to balance the charge and add half the amount of H2O to balance the hydrogen atoms.

We add 14 H+ on LHS and 7H2O on RHS to obtain:

6Fe^{2+}+Cr_{2}O_{7}^{2-}+14H^{+} -->6Fe^{3+}+2Cr^{3+}+7H_{2}O

Sum of coefficients of product cations = 6+2 = 8

How many atoms of Kr (Krypton) are in a balloon that contains 2.00 mol of Kr? (4)
Svetllana [295]

Answer:

atoms= 1.204x10^{24}atoms

Explanation:

Hello!

In this case, according to the Avogadro's number, it is possible to compute the atoms of Kr in 2.00 moles as shown below:

atoms=2.00mol*\frac{6.022x10^{23}atoms}{1mol} \\\\atoms= 1.204x10^{24}atoms

Best regards!

You are performing a simple distillation of roughly 50:50 liquid solution containing two components, hexane and nonane You place
kifflom [539]

Answer:

Explanation:

Refractive index is a undimensional measurement that describes how fast light travels through the material. It is used to see the liquid purity of compounds.

In this problem you have in the beginning a 50:50 solution oh hexane:nonane and realize distillation.

In distillation the collect is enriched with the most volatille substance (hexane). So you will have in the final sample more hexane than nonane.

Assuming the refractive index varies linearly with mole fraction, you will have:

1,375 → 100% hexane

1,407 → 100% nonane

1,385 → ???

molar fraction of hexane:

100 - (1,385 - 1,375) / (1,407 - 1,375) × 100 = 69 %

molar fraction of nonane:

100 - (1,407 - 1,385) / (1,407 - 1,375) × 100 = 31 %

The relation of the distillating fraction is (69:31) of (hexane:nonane)

You can see that distillation is a technique that allows the separation of a liquid mixture, for example.

I hope it helps!
