Assume that power surges occur as a Poisson process with rate 3 per hour. These events cause damage to a computer, thus a specia

l protecting unit has been designed. That unit now has to be removed from the system for 10 minutes for service.
(a) Assume that a single disturbance will cause the computer to crash. What is the probability that the system will crash in the coming 10 minutes?
(b) Assume that the computer will survive a single disturbance, but the second such disturbance will cause it to crash. What is, now, the probability that the computer will crash in the coming 10 minutes?

Answer:

a) 0.30327

b) 0.07582

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a Poisson distribution problem

Poisson distribution probability function is given as

P(X = x) = (e^-λ)(λˣ)/x!

where λ = mean = 3 power surges per hour

x = variable whose probability is required

a) If a single disturbance in 10 minutes will crash the computer, what is the probability of the computer crashing, that is probability of a single disturbance (power surge) in 10 minutes?

λ = 3 disturbances per hour = 1 disturbance per 20 minutes = 0.5 disturbance per 10 minutes.

P(X = x) = (e^-λ)(λˣ)/x!

λ = 0.5 disturbance per 10 minutes

x = 1 disturbance per 10 minutes

P(X = 1) = (e^-0.5)(0.5¹)/1! = (e⁻⁰•⁵)(0.5)/1!

= 0.30327

b) If two disturbances in 10 minutes will crash the computer, what is the probability of the computer crashing, that is probability of two disturbances (power surges) in 10 minutes?

λ = 3 disturbances per hour = 1 disturbance per 20 minutes = 0.5 disturbance per 10 minutes.

P(X = x) = (e^-λ)(λˣ)/x!

λ = 0.5 disturbance per 10 minutes

x = 2 disturbance per 10 minutes

P(X = 2) = (e^-0.5)(0.5²)/2! = (e⁻⁰•⁵)(0.25)/2!

= 0.07582

Hope this Helps!!!

He total variance is $35000 f. the total materials variance is $14000 f. the total labor variance is twice the total overhead va
TiliK225 [7]
Assume that the total overhead variance is x
We are given that the total labor variance is twice the total overhead variance. This means that, the total labor variance is 2x

Total variance can be calculated as follows:
Total variance = Total materials variance + Total overhead variance
                          + Total labor variance

We have:
Total variance = $35000
Total materials variance = $14000
Total overhead variance = x
Total labor variance = 2x

Substitute in the equation and solve for x as follows:
35000 = 14000 + x + 2x
35000 - 14000 = 3x
21000 = 3x
x = 21000/3
x = 7000

Based on the above calculations:
Total overhead variance = x = $7000
Total labor variance = 2x = 2*7000 = $14000

In a toy store, the ratio of the number of dolls to the number of teddy bears is . If the store has 240 dolls, how many teddy
forsale [732]

Answer:

<u>So, the way a ratio works is </u><u>"for every 1 of this, we have 4 of this"</u><u> for example. (the ratio I just described would be 1:4.) </u>

<u />

I believe I've seen this question before. If the ratio of dolls to teddy bears is 9:3 then for every 9 dolls you have 3 teddy bears.

So, since we have 240 dolls and a 9:3 ratio to teddy bears, all we have to do is take how many dolls we have (240) and divide it by 3 to see how many teddy bears we have.

So:

240 ÷ 3  = 80

If your ratio is 9:3, then 80 is your answer.

<u>Hope this helps and have a nice day!</u>
