Answer:

The paragraph contains a personification of luck/chance. Federigo refers to his luck as Fortune and conveys that despite his repeated complaining, Fortune is always scheming against him.

“My lady, ever since it pleased God for me to place my love in you, I have felt that Fortune has been  hostile to me in many things, and I have complained of her, but all this is nothing compared to what  she has just done to me, and I must never be at peace with her again, thinking about how you have  come here to my poor home where, while it was rich, you never deigned to come, and you requested a  small gift, and Fortune worked to make it impossible for me to give it to you; and why this is so I shall  tell you briefly. "

Explanation:

The question is from Federigo's Falcon  by Giovanni Boccaccio. In the paragraph 18, Federigo personifies luck in the form of Fortune, someone who keeps preventing his happiness and with whom he has an antagonistic relationship.

Why is this group of words not a sentence? When I won
Anarel [89]
It doesn't contain any punctuation, first of all, and second, it doesn't have a subject. To be a sentence, it must contain a subject. It also must contain one main clause.

Before Joseph Lister was inspired by Pasteur's germ theory to perform sterile operations, doctors A thought bacterial infection
uysha [10]

Answer:

B. harmed more patients with infections than they helped with surgery.

Explanation:

Before Joseph Lister was inspired by Pasteur's germ theory to perform sterile operations, doctors harmed more patients with infections than they helped with surgery.

This was because doctors didn't do enough to prevent the spread of bacteria through surgical equipment and in the end they ended up causing more problems for their patients than the help they gave.

Prior to Joseph Lister's sterilisation which was influenced by Pasteur's germ theory, surgeons were unhygienic and didn't wash their hands or change their clothing before surgery which made infections after surgery widespread.
