metal- a solid material that is typically hard, shiny, malleable, fusible, and ductile, with good electrical and thermal conductivity

non-metals- an element or substance that is not a metal.

metaloids- an element properties are intermediate between those of metals and solid nonmetals or semiconductors.

substance- a particular kind of matter with uniform properties.

physical properties- any property that is measurable, whose value describes a state of a physical system

luster- a gentle sheen or soft glow, especially that of a partly reflective surface.

conductivity- the degree to which a specified material conducts electricity, calculated as the ratio of the current density in the material to the electric field that causes the flow of current. It is the reciprocal of the resistivity.

1. Why is carbon dioxide a gas at low temperatures at mars
wlad13 [49]

1. carbon dioxide is a gas at low temperatures at mars because in the oxidizing environment organic compounds are oxidized to form carbon dioxide.

2. The 1 electron in outermost shell of Na is shared with 7 electrons of outermost shell of chlorine giving neutral charge on compound.

3. Electrostatic force of attraction is between the metal and non-metal.

4. When metal and non metal exchange electrons to form a neutral or no charge compound it is said to have form ionic bonds.

Explanation:

1. Temperature at Mars is very low -80 Fahrenheit (-60 degrees) because water is not present in the planet. Carbon dioxide is abundant in Mars. The atmosphere is oxidizing at Mars which oxidizes the organic compounds and forms carbon dioxide.

2. NaCl combines by sharing of electrons forming ionic bonding. Different atoms of the different element share electrons to form ionic bonds. Such bond is formed when electrons is transferred between the atoms. In the NaCl, Na has 1 electron (electropositive) in its outer shell and chlorine has 7 electrons (electronegative). Both share the electrons getting their octet complete and a neutral charge on the compound formed.

3. Electrostatic force of attraction is between the metal and non-metal when bond is formed. The ionic bonds is formed between metal and non metals when electron exchange takes place. The electrostatic force is the attraction between two opposite charges on the ion.

4. When a metal and non metal exchange electrons in which metal is electropositive and non metal is electronegative the bonds form is called ionic bond. The electron is transferred from metal to non metal and thus giving neutral charge on the compound i.e. the outer shell has its octet complete.

1/ Which graph illustrates constant speed and velocity
Maksim231197 [3]
Velocity is said to be constant if its magnitude as well direction at any instant is remains the same. In D, if you draw a line parallel to y-axis at any time t, you can see that velocity is same. Hence, D is the correct graph.

The kinetic energy of gaseous molecules is greater than that of liquid molecules. Therefore, in gas, kinetic energy overcomes the force of attraction between molecules. In short, in gas phase, particles move at high speed and hence they have less force of attraction. In case of liquid phase, particles are close enough as a result there is much more force of attraction compared to gaseous molecules. In liquid state, kinetic energy cannot overcome force of attraction therefore, liquid molecules slow down.

Therefore, B is the correct answer.

Ap biology lab -what barriers might hinder the acquisition of plasmids
kaheart [24]
Restriction as a barrier to transformation apparently contributes to sexual isolation since horizontal transfer can encompass chromosomal DNA and plasmids. I hope my answer has come to your help. God bless and have a nice day ahead!

What is the pH of .0003 M of NaOH
s344n2d4d5 [400]

We are given that the concentration of NaOH is 0.0003 M and are asked to calculate the pH

We know that NaOH dissociates by the following reaction:

NaOH → Na⁺ + OH⁻

Which means that one mole of NaOH produces one mole of OH⁻ ion, which is what we care about since the pH is affected only by the concentration of H⁺ and OH⁻ ions

Now that we know that one mole of NaOH produces one mole of OH⁻, 0.0003M NaOH will produce 0.0003M OH⁻

Concentration of OH⁻ (also written as [OH⁻]) = 3 * 10⁻⁴

pOH of the solution:

pOH = -log[OH⁻] = -log(3 * 10⁻⁴)

pOH = -0.477 + 4

pOH = 3.523

pH of the solution:

We know that the sum of pH and pOH of a solution is 14

pH + pOH = 14

pH + 3.523 = 14                              [subtracting 3.523 from both sides]

pH = 10.477
