A unit of area often used in measuring land areas is the hectare, defined as 104 m2. An open-pit coal mine consumes 75 hectares

of land, down to a depth of 26 m, each year. What volume of earth, in cubic kilometers, is removed in this time?

Answer:

0.0195km^{3}

Explanation:

1 hectare = 10^4 m^2

Area of pit, A = 75 hectare

convert hectare into m^2

A = 75 x 10^4 m^2

depth, d = 26 m

Volume of earth removed is V.

V = area of pit x depth

V = A x d

V = 75 x 10^4 x 26 = 1950 x 10^4 m^3

Convert cubic metre into cubic km

1 m = 10^-3 km

1 m^3 = 10^-9 km^3

So,

V = 1950 \times 10^{4} \times 10^{-9}=0.0195km^{3}

Type the correct answer in each box. Round your answers to the nearest hundredth.

Hi there!

\large\boxed{PE = 7.35 J, \text{ }v \approx 3.13 m/s}

To find the potential energy of the ball at B, we can use the equation:

PE = mgh

Plug the given gravity, mass, and height:

PE = (1.5)(0.5)(9.8) = 7.35 J

At A, all of this potential energy is changed to kinetic energy, so we can use the following equation:

v = √2KE/m

Plug in the solved for energy and mass:

v = √2(7.35)/1.5

Solve:

v ≈ 3.13 m/s

(a) A 2.00-µF capacitor is connected to a 18.0-V battery. How much energy is stored in the capacitor?
marshall27 [118]
<h2>Answer:</h2>

1.8 x 10⁻⁵J

<h2>Explanation:</h2>

The energy (E) stored in a capacitor of capacitance, C,  when a voltage, V, is supplied is given by;

E = \frac{1}{2} x C x V²              -------------------(i)

Now, from the question;

C = 2.00μF = 2.00 x 10⁻⁶F

V = 18.0V

Substitute these values into equation (i) as follows;

E = \frac{1}{2} x 2.00 x 10⁻⁶ x 18.0

E = 1.8 x 10⁻⁵J

Therefore, the quantity of energy stored in the capacitor is 1.8 x 10⁻⁵J
