Answer: C) CO^{2-}_{3}

Explanation: The Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion Model (VSEPR Model) shows bonding and nonbonding electron pairs present in the valence, outermost, shell of an atom connecting to other atoms. It also gives the molecular geometric shape of a molecule.

To determine molecular geometry:

1) Draw Lewis Structure, i.e., a simplified representation of the valence shell electrons;

2) Count the number of electron pairs (count multiple bonds as 1 pair);

3) Arrange electron pairs to minimise repulsion;

4) Position the atoms to minimise the lone pair;

5) Name the molecular geometry from the atom position;

Trigonal planar molecular geometry is a model which molecule's shape is triangular and in one plane. Such molecule has three regions of electron density extending out from the central atom and the repulsion will be at minimum when angle between any two is 120°.

The Lewis structure of each molecule is shown in the attachment.

Analysing each one, it can be concluded that molecule with trigonal planar geometry is CO^{2-}_{3}

Butanoic acid, HC4H7O2, has a pKa value = 4.82. What is the value of the ionization constant for butanoic acid?
gayaneshka [121]

Answer:

1.51 × 10⁻⁵

Explanation:

Step 1: Given data

pKa value: 4.82

Step 2: Write the reaction for the acid ionization of butanoic acid, HC₄H₇O₂

Butanoic acid is a weak acid that ionizes according to the following equation.

HC₄H₇O₂(aq) ⇄ C₄H₇O₂⁻(aq) + H⁺(aq)

The acid ionization constant for this reaction is Ka

Step 3: Calculate the value of the ionization constant for butanoic acid

We will use the following expression.

pKa = -log Ka

Ka = antilog -pKa = antilog -4.82 = 1.51 × 10⁻⁵

Propane can be turned into hydrogen by the two-step reforming process. In the first step, propane and water react to form carbon
Liono4ka [1.6K]

Answer: The net chemical reaction:

C_3H_8(g)+6H2_O(g)\rightarrow 10H_2(g)+3CO_2(g)

Explanation:

Step 1 : Propane reacts with water to form carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas

C_3H_8(g)+3 H_2O(g)\rightarrow 3 CO(g)+7 H_2(g)...[1]

Step 2 : carbon monoxide formed in above step reacts with water tio form hydrogen gas and carbon dioxide.

CO(g)+H_2O(g)\rightarrow H_2(g)+CO_2(g)...[2]

On Adding [1] and 3 × [2] we get overall balanced chemical reaction for the production of hydrogen from propane and water:

C_3H_8(g)+6H_2O(g)\rightarrow 10H_2(g)+3CO_2(g)

1 mole of propane reacts with 6 moles of water vapor to gve 10 moles of hydrogen gas and 3 moles of carbon dioxide.

Benzaldehyde, C6H5CHO, has a normal boiling point of 179.0 ∘C and a critical point at 422 ∘C and 45.9 atm.
Naya [18.7K]
Ln(P2/P1) = (L/R).(1/T1 - 1/T2)

with P1 = 1 atm, P2 = 45.9 atm, R = 8.314 J/mol.K, T1 = 452.15 K, T2 = 695.15 K. This gave the latent heat L as 41.2 kJ/mol.K.

Using this value, and calculating the vapour pressure at 120°C = 393.15 K

ln(P2) = (41.2 x 10^3/8.314).(1/452.15 - 1/393.15)

which gives the vapour pressure P2 as 0.1931 atm = 146.7 torr.
