I need help on Problem 2.11

Engineering

Answer:

No, energy as work cannot be transferred to the fluid.

The change in internal energy of the fluid is 0.

Explanation:

Work is dW = -P dV.

The fluid is incompressible, so dV = 0.  If there is no change in volume of the fluid, no work can be done. dW = 0.

Internal energy is dE = Q + W.

The work is zero.  Since the piston is insulated, the heat transferred is also zero.  If Q = 0 and W = 0, then the change in internal energy of the fluid dE is also zero.

shutvik [7]

The number of trays that should be prepared if the owner wants a service level of at least 95% is; 7 trays

<h3>How to utilize z-score statistics?</h3>

We are given;

Mean; μ = 15

Standard Deviation; σ = 5

We are told that the distribution of demand score is a bell shaped distribution that is a normal distribution.

Formula for z-score is;

z = (x' - μ)/σ

We want to find the value of x such that the probability is 0.95;

P(X > x) = P(z > (x - 15)/5) = 0.95

⇒ 1 -  P(z ≤ (x - 15)/5) = 0.95

Thus;

P(z ≤ (x - 15)/5) = 1 - 0.95

P(z ≤ (x - 15)/5) = 0.05

The value of z from the z-table of 0.05 is -1.645

Thus;

(x - 15)/5 = -1.645

x ≈ 7

Complete Question is;

A bakery wants to determine how many trays of doughnuts it should prepare each day. Demand is normal with a mean of 15 trays and standard deviation of 5 trays. If the owner wants a service level of at least 95%, how many trays should he prepare (rounded to the nearest whole tray)? Assume doughnuts have no salvage value after the day is complete. 6 5 4 7 unable to determine with the above information.

Answer:

<u>construction workers</u>

Explanation:

A construction worker is usually someone with the technical skills and abilities needed to manually construct physical infrastructures.

Since a walkway is an infrastructure, hiring skilled construction workers should perform the project of building the series of walkways within the large garden apartment.

A medium-sized jet has a 3.8-mm-diameter fuselage and a loaded mass of 85,000 kg. The drag on an airplane is primarily due to th
SCORPION-xisa [38]

Answer:

F_{thrust} ≅ 111 KN

Explanation:

Given that;

A medium-sized jet has a 3.8-mm-diameter i.e diameter (d) = 3.8

mass = 85,000 kg

drag co-efficient (C) = 0.37

(velocity (v)= 230 m/s

density (ρ) = 1.0 kg/m³

To calculate the thrust; we need to determine the relation of the drag force; which is given as:

F_{drag} = \frac{1}{2} × CρAv²

where;

ρ = density of air wind.

C = drag co-efficient

A = Area of the jet

v = velocity of the jet

From the question, we can deduce that the jet is in motion with a constant speed; as such: the net force acting on the jet in the air = 0

SO, F_{drag}-F_{thrust} = 0

We can as well say:

F_{drag}= F_{thrust}

We can now replace F_{thrust} with F_{drag} in the above equation.

Therefore, F_{thrust} = \frac{1}{2} × CρAv²

The A which stands as the area of the jet is given by the formula:

A=\frac{\pi d^2}{4}

We can now have a new equation after substituting our A into the previous equation as:

F_{thrust} = \frac{1}{2} × Cρ (\frac{\pi d^2}{4})v^2

Substituting our data from above; we have:

F_{thrust} = \frac{1}{2} × (0.37)(1.0kg/m^3)(\frac{\pi(3.8m)^2 }{4})(230m/s)^2

F_{thrust} = \frac{1}{8}   (0.37)(1.0kg/m^3)({\pi(3.8m)^2 })(230m/s)^2

F_{thrust} = 110,990N

F_{thrust}  in N (newton) to KN (kilo-newton) will be:

F_{thrust} = (110,990N)*\frac{1KN}{1,000N}

F_{thrust} = 110.990 KN

F_{thrust} ≅ 111 KN

In conclusion, the jet engine needed to provide 111 KN thrust in order to cruise at 230 m/s at an altitude where the air density is 1.0 kg/m³.

beks73 [17]

Answer:

0.0944

Explanation:

L = 1.5

B = 1.0

Speed of water = 15cm

Temperature = 20⁰C

At 20⁰C

Specific weight = 9790

Kinematic viscosity v = 1.00x10^-4m²/s

Dynamic viscosity u = 1.00x10^-3

Density p = 998kg/m²

Reynolds number

= 0.15x1.5/1.00x10^-4

= 225000

S = 5

5x1.5/225000^1/2

= 0.0158

= 15.8mm

Resistance on one side of plate

F = 0.664x1x1.0x10^-3x0.15x225000^1/2

= 0.04724N

Total resistance

= 2N

= 2x0.04724

= 0.0944N
