perimeter = 2W + 2L

42 = 2*8 + 2L

Length = 26 / 2 = 13

The perimeter is the sum of all sides therefore you will have two equal widths and two equal lenghs.  If the width is 8 inches then both widths are 8+8 or 16 which leaves the two lenghs  so If you take the total perimeter of 42 inches and subtract the total widths of 16 you have 26 inches left for the two lenghs.  If you take 26 and divide by 2 you get a lengh of 13.

Please help (click to veiw photo)
Colt1911 [192]
First, enter the variables into the expression.
\frac{1}{3} ^{2} -  \frac{-6^2 }{2/3}
Square 1/3 and -6 to get this:
\frac{1}{9} -  \frac{36}{2/3}
Divide 36 by 2/3:
\frac{1}{9} - 54
Subtract 54 from1/9 to get the final answer:
-53 \frac{8}{9}, which is option D.
Hope this helps!
