Ok so here's the thing. I was confused at first but when i thought a little deeper, I was able to find it out. Trust me it's easy and i'll walk you all through it.

when you think of 10, 14 is 4 more than 10 and 8 is 2 less than 10

Add these two numbers and you get 6 which is the same answer even if you don't use 10.
