A car traveling at 60 mph has how much more energy than a car going at 20 mph? How many times does the kinetic energy of a car i
irinina [24]

K.E. increases by 9 times

Explanation:

The kinetic energy of a car is given by:

KE=\frac{1}{2}mv^2

where

m is the mass of the car

v is its speed

From this definition, we see that the kinetic energy depends on the square of the velocity. Assuming that both cars have same mass, m, the kinetic energy of the first car is:

K_1 = \frac{1}{2}m(60)^2

while the kinetic energy of the second car is

K_2 = \frac{1}{2}m(20)^2

if we calculate the ratio, we get

\frac{K_1}{K_2}=\frac{(60)^2}{(20)^2}=3^2 =9

One dimension:

I'm waiting patiently for the elevator.  What floor is it on now ?

Two dimensions:
What's the address of your house ?
Where do you want this picture hung on your bedroom wall ?

Where are your rooks and pawns on the chessboard ?

Three dimensions:

A tennis ball traveling horizontally at a speed of 40 m/s hits a wall and rebounds in the opposite direction. The time Interval
liubo4ka [24]

Answer

given,

initial velocity of the ball, u = 40 m/s

final velocity of the ball, v= -40 m/s

time of contact = 0.013 s

mass of the ball = 0.059 Kg

a) initial momentum

   P₁ = m u = 0.059 x 40 = 2.36 kg.m/s

  final momentum

   P₂ = m v = 0.059 x (-40) = -2.36 kg.m/s

b) change in momentum

      Δ P = P₂- P₁

      Δ P = -2.36 - 2.36

     Δ P = -4.72 kg.m/s

c) Average force

 average force exerted by the ball is equal to change in momentum per unit time.

     F =\dfrac{\Delta P}{t}

     F =\dfrac{-4.72}{0.013}

            F = -363 N
