A DC-9 aircraft leaves an airport from a runway whose bearing is N4343degrees°E. After flying for one half 1 2 mile, the pilot

requests permission to turn 90degrees° and head toward the southeast. The permission is granted. After the airplane goes 1 mile in this direction, what bearing should the control tower use to locate the aircraft? What is the bearing that the control tower should use to locate the aircraft? ▼ S N nothingdegrees° ▼ E W (Round to the nearest tenth as needed.)

Answer:

103.4° or S76.6°E

Explanation:

The direction N43°E is perpendicular to the direction south-east when the plane turn 90° and heads in the south-east direction.

Since the distance 1/2 mile N43°E is perpendicular to the distance 1 mile south-east, we have a right angled triangle.

So, the angle θ between the aircraft's new position and old position is gotten from tanθ = 1 ÷ 1/2 = 2

θ = tan⁻¹(2) = 63.43°

So, the total angle from North to its new position is 40° + 63.43° = 103.43°

Since we need the south-east bearing, the angle from south is 180° - 103.43° = 76.57° ≅ 76.6°

So, our bearing is 103.4° or S76.6°E

When a block of ice at zero degrees Celsius melts, the ice A) absorbs energy from its environment. B) releases energy to its env
Mariulka [41]

Answer: Option (E) is the correct answer.

Explanation:

Latent heat is defined as the amount of heat required by per mole of a substance in order to change its state.

And, latent heat of freezing (fusion) is defined as the energy required for the phase change between a liquid and a solid without any change in their temperature.

Therefore, at zero degrees Celsius energy absorbed by the ice will be consumed in breaking the bond between the water molecules held together in the solid state.

Thus, we can conclude that when a block of ice at zero degrees Celsius melts, the ice absorbs energy but does not change its temperature.

A catapult with a radial arm 3.81 m long accelerates a ball of mass 18.2 kg through a quarter circle. The ball leaves the appara
saw5 [17]

Answer:

(a)\alpha = 53.73 m/s^2

(b)   I =428 kgm^2

(c)\tau = 428 \times 53.73  = 22996 .44Nm

Explanation:

GIVEN

mass = 18.2 kg

radial arm length = 3.81 m

velocity = 49.8 m/s

mass of arm = 22.6 kg

we know using relation between linear velocity and angular velocity

\omega = \frac{v}{l}

\omega = \frac{49.8}{3.81} \\\omega = 12.99 rad/s

for  angular acceleration, use the following equation.

\omega _{f}^2 = \omega_{i}^2+2\alpha\theta

since \omega _{i} = 0

here  for one circle is 2 π radians.   therefore for one quarter of a circle is π/2 radians

so   for one quarter \theta = \frac{\pi }{2}

(12.99)^2 = 2\alpha(\frac{\pi }{2})

on solving

\alpha = \frac{168.74}{\pi }\\\alpha = 53.73 m/s^2

(b)

For the catapult,

moment of inertia

I = \frac{1}{2}MR^2

I = \frac{1}{2} \times 22.6\times 3.81 \times 3.81\I = 164kg m^2

For the ball,

I = MR^2

I = 18.2 \times 14.51

I = 264 kgm^2

so total moment of inertia =  428 kgm^2

(c)

\tau = I\alpha

\tau = 428 \times 53.73  = 22996 .44Nm
