Answer:

a. Atenolol is a beta-blocker, while Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic.

b. Atenolol and Hydrochlorothiazide can be used together to decrease the blood pressure and to slow the heart rate down.

c. The patient needs to have into consideration that both medications may cause irregular heartbeats, dizziness, weakness and fainting.

Explanation:

Atenolol is a beta-blocker, it means that this drug slows down the heart rate by changing how the body responds to nerve impulses, which enhances the pumping of blood. Moreover, Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic or 'water pills' drug that can be used to treat edema conditions (i.e., excess fluid in tissues), thereby enhancing blood pressure that can damage the heart. It has been shown that the combination of both drugs may decrease the blood pressure and the incidence of hypertension.

Is it true that a neuron transfers information in the form of an electrical impulse?
IgorLugansk [536]
True. A neuron is nerve cell. It is considered the functional unit of the nervous system and it carries electrical impulses to the appropriate part of the nervous system or interprets the impulse and allows a response. The electrical impulse or message is carried through the fibrous extensions of the neuron called dendrites to the cell body. It passes through the cell body via the axon and finally to the end brush , a collection of fibers that extend off the axon. The electrical impulse then triggers a release of chemicals which permit the impulse to jump through the synapse, the space between the axon of one neuron and the dendrites of the next neuron.

Which statement best explains why the body releases insulin after a meal high in carbohydrates?
katen-ka-za [31]

The correct answer is A. Carbohydrates contain a lot of glucose, and insulin regulates blood glucose.

Explanation:

Glucose is a substance produced by the liver, this substance is important for the metabolism because it regulates glucose levels in the blood by making cells absorb glucose and use it for different functions or store it. This also implies the higher the glucose level in food is the more insulin is produced. Due to this, the intake of carbohydrates that contain a lot of glucose causes the body to release insulin as the body breaks carbohydrates into glucose and the level of glucose is soon regulated by insulin. According to this, the reason body releases insulin after a meal high in carbohydrates is "Carbohydrates contain a lot of glucose, and insulin regulates blood glucose".
