Two sixth grade science classes are making salt water solutions. The first class (Class A) is using a ratio of three parts salt to five parts water. The other class (Class B) is using a ratio of two parts salt to four parts water. Using your coordinate plane, compare the two solutions. Which solution is saltier? Explain your answer.

From the above equations we can say that Solution A is saltier because  it has more salt per part of water.

Let the amount of a part for salt be y.

Let the amount of a part of water be x.

Therefore for Class A we can say that

$\frac{y}{x} = \frac{3}{5} \Rightarrow y = \frac{3}{5} x = 0.6x$

and also for Class B we can say that

$\frac{y}{x} = \frac{2}{4} = \frac{1}{2} \Rightarrow y = 0.5x$

Solution A: y = 0.6 x

 Solution B:  y = 0.5 x

From the above equations we can say that Solution A is saltier because  it has more salt per part of water.
