If DE is the midsegment of ABC what is the value of x AND y?

Mathematics

Answer:

3.) x = 4.5

4.) y = 7

Step-by-step explanation:

3 is an easier one than 4. By the triangle midsegment theorem, the midsegment of a triangle will be half of the base if it is parallel to it. AB is our base, so the equation is like this!

AB = 2(ED)\\9=2(ED)\\4.5=ED

Now for 4, it actually is pretty easy. By the same triangle midsegment theorem, we automatically know that EC and EA are congruent, and CD and DB are also congruent. Meaning y equals 7.

But another way we can determine this (the long, kinda unecessary, but useful way) is through examining the relationship that triangles ABC and EDC have!  We know that they are similar triangles by SAS or AA. Meaning, their equation looks something like this...

4.5(7+y) = 9y\\31.5 + 4.5y = 9y\\31.5=4.5y\\7=y

Like I said earlier, 7 is equal to y, but I figured I'd prove it so we are on the same page. Nothing wrong with double-checking ;)

Find a negative real number such that the square of the sum of a number and 5 is equal to 48
NemiM [27]
Let x = negative real number  ⇒x<0

from the statement above, we can generate an equation:
(x + 5)² = 48
\sqrt{(x+5)^{2} }= \sqrt{48}
⇒ eliminate the square by getting the square root on both sides

\sqrt{48}   = \left \{ {{=4 \sqrt{3} } \atop {=-4 \sqrt{3} }} \right.
⇒ the perfect square of a real number has one positive real number and a negative real number

transposing 5 to other side, we will arrive at two (2) values for x:

x_{1} = -5 - 4√3    = -11.928
x_{2} = -5 + 4√3   =  1.928

Since we are only looking at the negative real number, our answer will be -11.928, also equal to -5 - 4√3.

What type of quadrilateral has the vertices A(3 , 6), B(3 , 3), C(6 , 3),and D(6 , 6)
Law Incorporation [45]

Answer:

It is a square.

<h3>Step-by-step explanation:</h3>

Background:

With this, lets find the distance between each of the shape's points, in order to find which shape it is.

Here's the distance formula, its a bit overkill for what you're doing right now, but it may help you with questions later on.

d=√(x2−x1)2+(y2−y1)2

Process:

So with this, compare the distance between each of the points. With Point A, it is (3, 6) with Point B it is (3,3). The change between these two points is down 3.

Next, with Point B (3,3) and Point C (6,3). The change between these two points is right 3.

Then, with Point C (6,3) and Point D (6,6). The change between these two points is up 3.

Last, with Point D (6,6) and Point A (3,6). The change between these two points is left 3.

Reasoning:

From this, we can see that all of the distance lengths are 3 units and that each of them create 90 degree angle turns*.

*You can find this by noting that the total amount of a rotation is 360 degrees, so when you change walking from up to the right, you are turning 90 degrees to do so.

Answer:

With this information in mind, it can be named a square given the definition of square:

"A regular quadrilateral, which means that it has four equal sides and four equal angles."

Convert each equation from rectangular to polar form. (x + 2)2 + ( y − 2)2 = 8
Monica [59]
Making the usual substitutions (x=r·cos(θ), y=r·sin(θ)), you have
  (r·cos(θ))² +4r·cos(θ) +4 + (r·sin(θ))² -4r·sin(θ) +4 = 8
  r(r +4·cos(θ) -4·sin(θ)) = 0
Dividing by r then subtracting the non-r terms gives
  r = 4(sin(θ) -cos(θ))
