A truck with a mass of 1370 kg and moving with a speed of 12.0 m/s rear-ends a 593 kg car stopped at an intersection. The collis

ion is approximately elastic since the car is in neutral, the brakes are off, the metal bumpers line up well and do not get damaged. Find the speed of both vehicles after the collision in meters per second.

Answer:

speed of car after collision, v2 =16.1 m/s and of the truck, v1 = 4.6 m/s

Explanation:

Given:

mass of truck M = 1370 kg

speed of truck = 12.0 m/s

mass of car m = 593 kg

collision is elastic therefore,

Applying law of momentum conservation we have

momentum before collision = momentum after collision

1370×12 + 0( initially car is at rest) = 1370×v1+ 593×v2               ....(i)

Also for a collision to be elastic,

velocity of approach = velocity of separation

12 -0 = v2-v1                  ....(ii)

using (i) and (ii) we have

So speed of car after collision, v2 =16.1 m/s and of the truck, v1 = 4.6 m/s

A 2 microcoulomb charge is placed at a distance of 0.25 m away from a 3.6 microcoulomb charge. Describe the type of electrostati
EleoNora [17]

Answer: 1.04N

Explanation:

Given

q1 = 2*10^-6C

q2 = 3.6*10^-6C

r = 0.25m

k = 9*10^9

Magnitude of electrostatic force can be calculated by using coulomb's law. Coulomb's law states that, "the magnitude of the electrostatic force of attraction or repulsion between two point charges is directly proportional to the product of the magnitudes of charges and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them."

F =(kq1q2) / r²

F = (9*10^9 * 2*10^-6 * 3.6*10^-6) / 0.25²

F = 0.0648/0.0625

F = 1.04N

The type of electrostatic force between the charges is the repulsive force

Water flows over a section of Niagara Falls at rate of 1.1×10^6 kg/s and falls 49.4 m. How much power is generated by the fallin
DerKrebs [107]

Answer:

The power generated is = 5.33×10⁸ Watt.

Explanation:

Power: Power can be defined as the time rate of doing work. The S.I unit of power is Watt(W).

Mathematically,

Power (P) = Work done/time or Energy/time

P = mgh/t............................... Equation 1

P = δgh............................. Equation 2

Where δ = fall rate, g = acceleration due to gravity, h = height.

Given: δ = 1.1×10⁶ kg/s, h = 49.4 m g = 9.81 m/s²

Substituting these values into equation 2

P = 1.1×10⁶×49.4×9.81

P = 533.08×10⁶

P = 5.33×10⁸ Watt.

Thus the power generated is = 5.33×10⁸ Watt.
