Two blocks in contact sliding down an inclined surface of inclination 30°. The friction coefficient between the block of mass 2.

0 kg
and the incline is µ1 = 0.20 and that between the block of mass 4.0 kg and the

incline is µ2 = 0.30. Find the acceleration of 2.0 kg block. ( g = 10m/s^2).

Answer:

The acceleration of 2.0 kg block is 2.7 m/s²

Explanation:

Since, µ₁ < µ₂ acceleration of 2 kg block down the plane will be more than the acceleration of 4 kg block, if allowed to move separately. But, as the 2.0 kg block is behind the 4.0 kg block both of them will move with same acceleration say a. Taking both the blocks as a single system:

Force down the plane on the system

= (4 + 2) g sin30°

= (6)(10)(½)

= 30N

Force up the plane on the system

= µ₁ (2)(g)cos30° + µ₂ (4)(g)cos30°

= (2µ₁ + 4µ₂) g cos30°

= (2 × 0.2 + 4 × 0.3)(10)(√3/2)

≈ 13.76 N

∴ Net force down the plane is F

F = 30 - 13.76

F = 16.24 N

∴Acceleration of both the blocks down the

plane will b a

a = F ÷ (4 + 2)

a = 16.24 ÷ 6

a = 2.7 m/s²

Thus, The acceleration of 2.0 kg block is

2.7 m/s²

Pavel [41]

Answer:

The two objects will collide with the same position vector for all three components at exactly t = 4 s

Explanation:

For two particles starting out at the same time to collide, their position Vector's at the time of collision must be exactly the same.

So, at the collision point, position vector of object 1 is equated to that of object 2.

r₁ = (t², 13t-36, t²)

r₂ = (7t-12, t², 5t-4)

At he point of collision

t² = 7t - 12

t² - 7t + 12 = 0

t² - 4t - 3t + 12 = 0

t(t - 4) - 3(t - 4) = 0

t = 3s or t = 4s

13t - 36 = t²

t² - 13t + 36 = 0

t² - 4t - 9t + 36 = 0

t(t - 4) - 9(t - 4) = 0

t = 9s or 4s

t² = 5t - 4

t² - 5t + 4 = 0

t² - 4t - t + 4 = 0

t(t - 4) - 1(t - 4) = 0

t = 1s or t = 4s

The three components intersect at other times, but at t = 4s, they all intersect at the same time! Meaning that, at this point the two objects are at the same place with the same position vector at that time.

Which statement is accurate about how the aurora borealis is formed?
g100num [7]

Answer:

When the electrons jump to a higher energy state, they release energy as electromagnetic radiation, light.

Explanation:

When the solar wind gets past the magnetic field and travels towards the Earth, it runs into the atmosphere. As the protons and electrons from the solar wind hit the particles in the Earth's atmosphere, they release energy – and this is what causes the northern lights.

Why do solar eclipses happen only during a new moon?
mixas84 [53]

Answer:

For a solar eclipse to occur the moon must be between the earth and the sun (the light of the sun is blocked)'

By definition this is a new moon (which occurs when the moon cannot be seen because it is located between the sun and the earth).
