By studying the fossil record we can tell how long life has existed on Earth, and how different plants and animals are related to each other. Often we can work out how and where they lived, and use this information to find out about ancient environments. Fossils can tell us a lot about the past.

Answer: Due to fossils, which are preserved in 5 main ways, Compression, Premineralization, molds, casts, and preservation of the original remains. We are able to see, just what kind of life once roamed this earth. We can have some what of a window to the past, and can make observations based on what is preserved. These fossils are  a gateway to a time when humans were not yet formed, and we can see how we evolved, what we, and  everything else evolved from.
