The standard reduction potentials for the Ag+|Ag(s) and Zn2+| Zn(s) half-cell reactions are +0.799 V and -0.762 V, respectively.
mihalych1998 [28]

<u>Answer:</u> The potential of the given cell is 1.551 V

<u>Explanation:</u>

The given chemical cell follows:

Zn(s)|Zn^{2+}(0.125M)||Ag^{+}(0.240M)|Ag(s)

<u>Oxidation half reaction:</u> Zn(s)\rightarrow Zn^{2+}(0.125M)+2e^-;E^o_{Zn^{2+}/Zn}=-0.762V

<u>Reduction half reaction:</u> Ag^{+}(0.240M)+e^-\rightarrow Ag(s);E^o_{Ag^{+}/Ag}=0.799V       ( × 2)

<u>Net cell reaction:</u> Zn(s)+2Ag^{+}(0.240M)\rightarrow Zn^{2+}(0.125M)+2Ag(s)

Oxidation reaction occurs at anode and reduction reaction occurs at cathode.

To calculate the E^o_{cell} of the reaction, we use the equation:

E^o_{cell}=E^o_{cathode}-E^o_{anode}

Putting values in above equation, we get:

E^o_{cell}=0.799-(-0.762)=1.561V

To calculate the EMF of the cell, we use the Nernst equation, which is:

E_{cell}=E^o_{cell}-\frac{0.059}{n}\log \frac{[Zn^{2+}]}{[Ag^{+}]^2}

where,

E_{cell} = electrode potential of the cell = ? V

E^o_{cell} = standard electrode potential of the cell = +1.561 V

n = number of electrons exchanged = 2

[Zn^{2+}]=0.125M

[Ag^{+}]=0.240M

Putting values in above equation, we get:

E_{cell}=1.561-\frac{0.059}{2}\times \log(\frac{(0.125)}{(0.240)^2})

E_{cell}=1.551V

Hence, the potential of the given cell is 1.551 V

An element gain two electrons and has 16 protons and 17 neutrons. What is the atomic mass of this element and what is the charge
Taya2010 [7]

Answer:

atomic mass= 33

Charge= -2

Explanation:

In an atom, are contained three SUBATOMIC particles viz: proton and neutron found in the nucleus, electrons surrounding the nucleus. Protons contain the positive charge of an atom while electrons contain the negative charge of an atom. The number of protons and electrons in an atom determines the charge of an ion (charged atom). Also, the atomic mass or mass number of that atom is got by adding the number of protons + number of neutrons.

In this case where the number of protons and number of neutrons are 16 and 17 respectively, the mass no. or atomic mass is 17 + 16 = 33.

Also, since two electrons are gained by this atom, it means the electron numbe, which is normally equal to the proton number in a neutral atom, will be increased by 2. Hence, the electron number will be 18 in this case.

The charge of the atom= no. of protons - no. of electrons = 16 - 18 = -2.

HELP! <br><br>How many moles of a solute would 3 liters of a 2-molar solution contain?
katrin [286]

Answer: If it was 3 mol of solute in 2 L of solution it would be 1.5 mol/L.

However when the solute dissolves in the water creating the solution, the volume increases. So 3 mol of solute in 2 L of water creates more than 2 L of solution.

The correct method for making a 3 mol/L solution would be to place some water into a two liter volume container. Dissolve all 3 mol of the solute into the water. Then add water to the 2 L mark. Now there is 3 mol of solute and 2 L of solution.

Explanation: I hope this helps XDDDD
