Answer:

-2.25

Step-by-step explanation:

9(1-x) = 27Y

9-9x =27y

-9x -27y = -9  multiply all terms by -1

9x +27y =9   equation (1)

x-y= -11/2 equation (2)

by solving 2 equations

x= -3.875

y= 1.625

∴ x+ y = 1.625 +(-3.875) = -2.25

Let 9(1-x) = 27y be equation one and let x-y = -11/2 be equation two

Simplify -11/2 into -5.5 and make x the subject in equation two by moving y to the other side as a positive value. So now you have x= -5.5+y (now let that be equation two)

Sub equation two into equation one so that you get 9(1-(-5.5+y)= 27y

Expand brackets 9(1+5.5-y)= 27y

Simplify brackets 9(6.5-y)= 27y

Expand brackets 58.5-9y= 27y

Take -9y to the other side as a positive number

58.5= -36y

Divide both sides by -36

y= 1.625

For x, substitute the value of y into equation two

x= -5.5+1.625

x= -3.875

To finally answer the question aadd the value of x and y together

-3.875+1.625= -2.25

Som the value of x + y is -2.25

Suppose that you randomly draw one card from a standard deck of 52 cards. After writing down which card was drawn, you replace t
34kurt

Answer:

The probability is 0.0775

The expected value is 4.75 clubs

The standard deviation is 1.8875 clubs

Step-by-step explanation:

The variable X follows a binomial distribution, because we have n identical and independent events (19 cards) with a probability p of success and 1-p of fail (there is a probability of 1/4 to be club and 3/4 to be diamond, heart or spade). Then, the probability that x of the n cards are club is:

P(x)=\frac{n!}{x!(n-x)!}*p^{x}*(1-p)^{n-x}\\P(x)=\frac{19!}{x!(19-x)!}*0.25^{x}*(0.75)^{19-x}

So, the probability P of drawing at least 8 clubs is:

P = P(8) + P(9) + P(10) + ... + P(18) + P(19)

Replacing, the values of x, from 8 to 19, on the equation above, we get:

P = 0.0775

Additionally, the expected value E(x) and standard deviationS(x) for this distribution is given by:

E(x)=np = 19(0.25) = 4.75

S(x)=\sqrt{np(1-p)} =\sqrt{19(0.25)(0.75)} =1.8875
