Luiz and Bianca are brother and sister and go to the same school. Luiz walks to school using a footpath, a distance of 900 m, an

d he walks at 1.5 m/s. Bianca cycles to school along the roads, a distance of 1.5 km, and she cycles at 5 m/s. They both plan on arriving at school by 8.55 a.m. Who leaves home first and by how much?

Answer:

Luis leaves home first and he leaves 5 minutes before Bianca

Step-by-step explanation:

dL (distance travelled by Luis) = 900 m

sL(Luis'd speed) = 1.5 m/s

tL = time taken by Luis = dL/sL = 900/1.5 = 600 seconds = 10 mins

So Luis would need to leave home at 8:45 am

dB = 1.5 km = 1500 m

sB = 5 m/s

tB = dB/sB = 1500/5 = 300 seconds = 5 minutes

So Biance would leave home at 8:50 am

Does y varies directly with x?

Find the constant of variation and write the equation.
amid [387]
Some textbooks describe direct variation by saying " y varies directly as x ", " y varies proportionally as x ", or " y is directly proportional to x . ") This means that as x increases, y increases and as x decreases, y decreases—and that the ratio between them always stays the same.

In a state lottery game you select six numbers from 1 to 44. the state selects six numbers at random from 1 to 44 without replac
LiRa [457]
We need to correctly choose exactly 4 out of the 6 drawn numbers.

Apply hypergeometric distribution:
a=number of correctly chosen numbers = 4
A=number of correct (drawn) numbers = 6
b=number of incorrectly chosen numbers = 2
B=number of undrawn numbers = 44-6 = 38

Then by the hypergeometric distribution
P(a,b,A,B)
=C(A,a)C(B,b)/C(A+B,a+b) [C(n,r)=combination of r objects taken out of n]
=C(6,4)C(38,2)/C(44,6)
=15*703/7059052
= 10545/7059052
= 0.001494 (to the nearest millionth)
Answer: probability of winning third prize is 10545/7059052=0.001494

Find the perimeter of the shape below:
DedPeter [7]
I see 3 right triangles.

Right triangle: a² + b² = c²
a = long leg ; b = short leg ; c = hypotenuse
hypotenuse = EH
a = 6 - 3 = 3
b = 3 - 1 = 2
c² = 3² + 2²
c² = 9 + 4
c² = 11
c = √11
c = 3.32

hypotenuse = FG
a = 3 ; b = 1
c² = 3² + 1²
c² = 9 + 1
c² = 10
c = √10
c = 3.16

hypotenuse = EF
a = 3 ; b = 2
c² = 3² + 2²
c² = 9 + 4
c² = 11
c = √11
c = 3.32

perimeter = 3.32 + 3.16 + 3.32 + 2 = 11.8
