Answer:

- \frac{26}{15}

Step-by-step explanation:

\frac{1}{5} = -  \frac{1}{2}w - \frac{2}{3}

multiply equation by a common denominator. Let's use 30.

you get :

6 = -15w - 20

26 = -15w

w = -  \frac{26}{15}

Select the two values of x that are roots of this equation.<br> X2 + 2x - 5 = 0
LenaWriter [7]

Answer:

x=-1+\sqrt{6 }

x=-1-\sqrt{6 }

Step-by-step explanation:

x=\frac{-b±\sqrt{b^{2}-4ac } }{2a}

Ignore the A before the ±. It wouldn't let me type it correctly.

x² + 2x - 5 = 0

a = 1

b = 2

c = - 5

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{2^{2}-4((1)(-5)) } }{2(1)}

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{4-4((1)(-5)) } }{2(1)}

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{4+20 } }{2(1)}

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{24 } }{2}

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{(2)(12) } }{2}

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{(2)(2)(6) } }{2}

x=\frac{-2±\sqrt{(2)(2)(2)(3) } }{2}

x=\frac{-2±(\sqrt{2} )(\sqrt{2})(\sqrt{(2)(3) )} }{2}

x=\frac{-2±2\sqrt{6 } }{2}

Two separate equations

x=\frac{-2+2\sqrt{6 } }{2}

x=\frac{-2-2\sqrt{6 } }{2}

x=-1+\sqrt{6 }

x=-1-\sqrt{6 }

Which of the following defines inertia?
ziro4ka [17]

Long exlpination short, the answer is <em><u>A. </u></em>

Which of the following defines inertia?

<em><u>A.The tendency of an object with mass to resist a change in its motion.</u></em>

B.The tendency of mass not to resist any change in its motion.

C.The tendency of a mass-less object to resist a change in its motion.

D.The tendency of objects to speed up or slow down.

E.The tendency of an object with a weight to resist a change in its motion.

If you want to know <em><u>how </u></em>I got that answer, continue reading below. Otherwise, hope I helped!!!

---------------------

First, I think it would be wise to take a dictionary or G00GLE the definiton of Inertia. This is what I found when doing a G00GLE search:

<u>The Definition of Inertia:</u>

  • a tendency to do nothing or to remain unchanged.
  • a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.
  • the tendency of an object to resist change in its motion

By our definitions we can definetly elliminate choice D.

Choices C and E don't seem to fit either.

I bolded the choices that don't seem to fit the definitions of Inertia.

C.The tendency of a mass-less object to resist a change in its motion.

D.The tendency of objects to speed up or slow down.

E.The tendency of an object with a weight to resist a change in its motion.

Looks like I've narrowed it down. This should make it easier.

Choices could be A. or B.

Let's go back to the definition and compare it with the remaining choices.

B.The tendency of mass not to resist any change in its motion.

Hold up!! It looks like the 3rd definition fits one of our choices!!

(I bolded and underlined the two similarites above)

So... The answer <em>should </em>be <em><u>A </u></em>by using process of elimination.

Here is a clip of some information on Inertia:

Inertia is the resistance, of any physical object, to any change in its velocity. This includes changes to the object's speed, or direction of motion. Inertia comes from the Latin word, iners, meaning idle, sluggish. (Source: Wiki)

Identify the equation of a line in slope- intercept form that is perpendicular to y = -1/3 x + 2 and passes through (2, 1) Show
Dmitriy789 [7]

Answer: y = 3x - 5

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of a straight line can be represented in the slope intercept form as

y = mx + c

Where

c = intercept

m = slope = (change in the value of y in the y axis) / (change in the value of x in the x axis)

The equation of the given line is

y = -1/3x + 2

Comparing with the slope intercept form, slope = - 1/3

If two lines are perpendicular, it means that the slope of one line is the negative reciprocal of the slope of the other line. Therefore, the slope of the line passing through

(2, 1) is 3/1 = 3

To determine the intercept, we would substitute m = 3, x = 2 and y = 1 into y = mx + c. It becomes

1 = 3 × 2 + c = 6 + c

c = 1 - 6 = - 5

The equation becomes

y = 3x - 5
