How do nitrates get into the surface water

Biology

Natural levels of nitrate in Minnesota groundwater are usually quite low (less than 1 milligram per liter [mg/L] of nitrate-nitrogen). However, where sources of nitrate such as fertilizers, animal wastes, or human sewage are concentrated near the ground surface, nitrate may seep down and contaminate the groundwater. Elevated nitrate levels in groundwater are often caused by run-off from barnyards or feedlots, excessive use of fertilizers, or septic systems.

Wells most vulnerable to nitrate contamination include shallow wells, dug wells with casing which is not watertight, and wells with damaged, leaking casing or fittings.

Nitrate contamination of a well is often regarded as a first sign of deteriorating groundwater quality.

Scientists use a system called binomial nomenclature to classify organisms. For example, the goldfish is known as Carassius aura
stepan [7]

The correct answer is: d. Carassius is a group of different organisms with similar structures, while auratus is a smaller group of memebers that can only breed with another auratus.

Carassius represents the name of genus. In binomial nomenclature it is the generic name shared by the group of close relatives. In this case, Carassius is a genus in the family of ray-finned fishes.

Auratus represents the species of the fish and it is specific unique epithet within the genus.

What is the process of the cellular division that separates homologous chromosomes from one another?
nataly862011 [7]
For meiosis, this is in anaphase I. For the separation of sister CHROMATIDS in mitosis, this is anaphase. Either way, the separation of two whole chromosomes or two chromatids within one whole chromosome takes place during anaphase. This occurs after metaphase and before telophase and cytokinesis.
