The intensity of illumination at any point from a light source is proportional to the square of the reciprocal of the distance b
SSSSS [86.1K]

Answer:

the stronger light 5.5 m apart from the total illumination

Explanation:

From the problem's statement , the following equation can be deducted:

I= k/r²

where I = intensity of illumination , r= distance between the point and the light source , k = constant of proportionality

denoting 1 as the stronger light and 2 as the weaker light

I₁= k/r₁²

I₂= k/r₂²

dividing both equations

I₂/I₁ = r₁²/r₂²=(r₁/r₂)²

solving for r₁

r₁ = r₂ * √(I₂/I₁)

since we are on the line between the two light sources , the distance from the light source to the weaker light is he distance from the light source to the stronger light + distance between the lights . Thus

r₂ = r₁ + d

then

r₁ = (r₁ + d)* √(I₂/I₁)

r₁ = r₁*√(I₂/I₁) + d*√(I₂/I₁)

r₁*(1-√(I₂/I₁)) =  d*√(I₂/I₁)

r₁ = d*√(I₂/I₁)/(1-√(I₂/I₁))  =

r₁ = d/[√(I₁/I₂)-1)]

since the stronger light is 9 times more intense than the weaker

I₁= 9*I₂ → I₁/I₂ = 9 →√(I₁/I₂)= 3

then since d=11 m

r₁ = d/[√(I₁/I₂)-1)] = 11 m / (3-1) = 5.5 m

r₁ = 5.5 m

therefore the stronger light 5.5 m apart from the total illumination

Identify the limiting reactant in the reaction of iron and chlorine to form FeCl3, of 22.7 g of Fe and 37.2 g of Cl2 are combine
Mice21 [21]

Answer:

3.13 g of Fe remains after the reaction is complete

Explanation:

The first step to begin is determine the reaction:

2Fe + 3Cl₂ → 2FeCl₃

Let's find out the moles of each reactant:

22.7 g / 55.85 g/mol = 0.406 moles of Fe

37.2 g / 70.9 g/mol = 0.525 moles of Cl₂

Ratio is 2:3. 2 moles of iron react with 3 moles of chlorine

Then, 0.406 moles of iron will react with (0.406 . 3)/ 2 = 0.609 moles

We need 0.609 moles of chlorine when we have 0.525 moles, so as we do not have enough Cl₂, this is the limiting reactant.

The excess is the Fe. Let's see:

3 moles of chlorine react with 2 moles of Fe

Then, 0.525 moles of Cl₂ will react with (0.525 . 2) /3 = 0.350 moles

We need 0.350 moles of Fe and we have 0.406; as there are moles of Fe which remains after the reaction is complete, it is ok that Fe is the excess reagent.

0.406 - 0.350 = 0.056 moles of Fe still remains. We convert moles to mass:

0.056 mol . 55.85g / 1 mol = 3.13 g

Hydrogen peroxide is a versatile chemical, its uses include bleaching wood pulp and fabrics and substituting for chlorine in wat
Tasya [4]

Answer:

Explanation:

a )

H₂O₂ (aq) + 2 Fe²⁺ (aq) + 2 H⁺  = 2H20 (l) + 2 Fe³⁺(aq)

Here oxidation number  of Fe is increasing from + 2 to + 3 so it is being oxidized . Hence H₂O₂ is acting as oxidizing agent here .

b )

5 H₂O₂ (aq) + 2 MnO₄⁻¹ (aq) + 6 H⁺ (aq) → 8 H20 (l) + 2 Mn⁺² (aq) + 5O₂ (g)

In this reaction,  oxidation number of Mn is reducing from + 7 to + 2 so it is being reduced . Here H₂O₂ is acting as reducing agent .
