The displacement from equilibrium of an oscillating weight suspended by a spring and subject to the damping effect of friction i

s given by y(t) = 2e−t cos 4t, where y is the displacement (in centimeters) and t is the time (in seconds). Find the displacement when t = 0, t = 1 4 , and t = 1 2 . (Round your answers to two decimal places.)

Note that the correct times are t = 0, t = 1/4, t = 1/2. You can tell from the spaces between the two digits. i.e 1&4 and 1&2

Answer:

y(0) = 2.00 cm

y(1/4) = 1.56 cm

y(1/2) = 1.21 cm

Explanation:

This is a very simple exercise, the displacement of the oscillating weight from equilibrium has already been modeled by the equation:

y(t) = 2e^{-t} cos 4t

Where y = displacement ( in cm)

and t = time (in seconds)

The task is to find the displacement when t = 0, 1/4 and 1/2

When t = 0 s

y(0) = 2e^{0} cos 4(0)\\y(0) = 2* 1*1\\y(0) = 2.00 cm

When t = 1/4 s

y(1/4) = 2e^{-1/4} cos 4(1/4)\\y(14) = 2e^{-1/4} cos (1)\\y(1/4) = 1.56 cm

When t = 1/2

y(1/2) = 2e^{-1/2} cos 4(1/2)\\y(14) = 2e^{-1/2} cos (2)\\y(1/2) = 1.21 cm

A 14.3-g bullet is fired into a 5.21 kg block of wood. The block is attached to a spring that has a spring force constant of 450
Natasha2012 [34]

Answer:

The initial speed of the bullet is v_{o} = 889.199\,\frac{m}{s}.

Explanation:

The collision between bullet and block is inelastic and let suppose that motion occurs on a horizontal surface, so that changes in gravitational potential energy can be neglected. Initially, the intial speed of the bullet-block system can be determined with the help of the Work-Energy Theorem and the Principle of Energy Conservation:

K = U_{k} + W_{loss}

\frac{1}{2}\cdot (5.224\,kg)\cdot v^{2} = \frac{1}{2}\cdot \left(450\,\frac{N}{m}\right)\cdot (0.22\,m)^{2} + (0.35)\cdot (5.224\,kg)\cdot \left(9.807\,\frac{m}{s^{2}} \right) \cdot (0.22\,m)

The initial speed of the bullet-block system is:

v \approx 2.383\,\frac{m}{s}

Now, the initial speed of the bullet is determined by applying the Principle of Momentum Conservation:

(0.014\,kg)\cdot v_{o} = (5.224\,kg)\cdot \left(2.383\,\frac{m}{s} \right)

v_{o} = 889.199\,\frac{m}{s}

A rock is dropped from rest. How fast is it going after it has been falling for 9.2 s?
natka813 [3]

90.2 m/s. A rock dropped from rest after it has falling for 9.2 seconds will have a velocity of 90.2m/s.

The bodies left in free fall increase their speed (downwards) by 9.8 m/s² every second. The acceleration of gravity is the same for all objects and is independent of the masses of these. In the free fall the air resistance is not taken into account.

v = g*t

v = (9.8m/s²)(9.2s) = 90.2 m/s
