Well it is true if the problem is the right with the right answer. If not you have a false eqaution.
The diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other so
4x - 7 = x + 2 and
5y - 8 = 3y
4x - 7 = x + 2 so 3x = 9 and x = 3
5y - 8 = 3y so 2y = 8 and y = 4
