At a certain temperature a 42.55% (v/v) solution of ethyl alcohol, C2H5OH, in water has a density of 0.9027 g mL-1. The density

of ethyl alcohol at this temperature is 0.7782 g mL-1, and that of water is 0.9949 g mL-1.
a. Calculate the molar concentration of ethyl alcohol.
b. Calculate the molal concentration of ethyl alcohol.
c. Calculate the mole fraction of ethyl alcohol in the solution.

Answer:

a. 7.187M.

b. 7.962m.

c. 0.1846

Explanation:

This solution contains 42.55mL of ethyl alcohol in 100mL of solution.

a. Molar concentration = Moles ethyl alcohol / L solution:

Moles ethyl alcohol -Molar mass: 46.07g/mol-

42.55mL * (0.7782g/mL) * (1mol / 46.07g) = 0.7187 moles ethyl alcohol

Liters solution:

100mL * (1L / 100mL) = 0.100L

Molar concentration: 0.7187mol / 0.100L = 7.187M

b. Molal concentration: Moles ethyl alcohol (0.7187moles) / kg solution

kg solution:

100mL * (0.9027g / mL) * (1kg / 1000g) = 0.09027kg

Molal concentration: 0.7187mol / 0.09027kg = 7.962m

c. Mole fraction: Moles ethyl alcohol / Moles ethyl alcohol + moles water

Moles water: -molar mass: 18.01g/mol-

Volume water = 100mL - 42.55mL = 57.45mL

57.45mL * (0.9949g/mL) * (1mol/18.01g) = 3.1736 moles water

Moles fraction:

0.7187 moles ethyl alcohol / 0.7187 moles ethyl alcohol+3.1736 moles water

= 0.1846

The conjugate acid of a particular halide has a pka = 3. a student wants to use this halide in a substitution reaction thinking
Taya2010 [7]

Since the leaving ability of the halide ions increasees as the basicity of the halide decreases.

If the basicity of the halide decreases as the its conjugate acid is strong.

Since the pKa value of conjuage acid of haldie is 3, it is a weak acid. So, it halide is not a good leaving group.

Therefore the answer is No, because a good leaving group is the conjugate base of a strong acid. The halide not acidic enough to be a good leaving group.

Explain the difference between the reacts and products of a chemical reaction
Alika [10]
Reactants are what is changed in the chemical reaction. They go before the arrow when you wrote the equation. Products are what is formed when the chemical reaction occurs. Products always contain the same elements as the reactants, but they might be rearranged because of the reaction. In this picture, you can see that the reactants go before the arrow, and the products go after.

There are many lewis structures you could draw for sulfuric acid, h2so4 (each h is bonded to an o). part a what lewis structure(
erica [24]
Structure 1 is satisfying octet rule because each atom surrounded by 8 electrons:
The valance electron for oxygen is 6, for sulfur is 6, but for hydrogen is 1. Therefore, the molecule has valance electrons. Sulfur is bonded with 4 oxygen atoms, 4 single bonds, whereas 2 hydrogen atoms are bonded with 2 oxygen atoms.

But the actual structure is 2 but it violates octet rule since S is surrounded in this case with 12 electrons

Solution that contains high percentage of the base in solution are called?
g100num [7]

Answer:

Basic solution.

Explanation:

Solution that contains high percentage of the base in solution are called basic solution because it has more amount of 'Hydroxl or Hydroxide' ions or (OH-) ions. When we put few drops of the red litmus solution or paper in the solution which contains high percentage of the base, it turns red colour in to blue.

So, here the blue colour indicates that the solution is basic in nature.
