Read the passage. Daniyah stood on a stool holding a large wooden spoon. A mildly spicy aroma came from the simmering pot on the

stove. She and her grandmother had spent all morning in the cozy kitchen, laughing while cutting fresh meats, vegetables, and herbs. They had diced firm red tomatoes, carved into the smooth purple skins of eggplants, and sliced aromatic onions into slivers. One by one, they had added all the ingredients to the bubbling broth. Her grandmother had explained every step of preparation and the importance of each ingredient. She had told Daniyah how this recipe had been in the family for many generations. In her mind, Daniyah pictured her ancestors in long dresses preparing the flavorful stew just as she had done with her grandmother. Now, hours later, with the faint smell of garlic still on her fingertips, Daniyah smacked her lips in anticipation of this evening’s meal. She knew that her entire family would love it. The sensory language in this passage makes this kitchen appear to be a disorganized mess. a clean environment. a busy and crowded room. a warm and inviting place.

What conditions in the North might explain the many roles taken on by the black church in the 1800’s
dolphi86 [110]

Answer:

Discrimination and Restrictions to black people.

Explanation:

In the northeastern states, blacks faced discrimination in many forms. Segregation was rampant, especially in Philadelphia, where African Americans were excluded from concert halls, public transportation, schools, churches, orphanages, and other places. Blacks were also forced out of the skilled professions in which they had been working. And soon after the turn of the century, African American men began to lose the right to vote -- a right that many states had granted following the Revolutionary War. Simultaneously, voting rights were being expanded for whites. New Jersey took the black vote away in 1807; in 1818, Connecticut took it away from black men who had not voted previously; in 1821, New York took away property requirements for white men to vote, but kept them for blacks. This meant that only a tiny percentage of black men could vote in that state. In 1838, Pennsylvania took the vote away entirely. The only states in which black men never lost the right to vote were Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Why did jews come to georgia? What was there importance to the colony
cestrela7 [59]

Answer:

They were originally banned from the Georgia colony, but when 42 Jewish immigrants from Europe arrived in Savannah on this day in 1733, James Oglethorpe welcomed them.

Explanation:

The migrants arrived onboard the ship William and Sarah on a trip financed by members of a London synagogue. Of the 43, 34 were Sephardic Jews, of Spanish and Portuguese heritage. The rest were Ashkenazic, of German descent. A Torah scroll they brought with them survives to this day at the Congregation Mickve Israel in Savannah, created in 1735, two years after their arrival. It is the oldest Jewish congregation in the South and the third oldest in the country. Oglethorpe’s enthusiastic welcome was due, in part, to Dr. Samuel Nunes, a Jewish physician whom the Georgia founder credited with saving the lives of many colonists suffering from yellow fever.

These Jews and their descendants would play a central role in the development of our state, after the first Jewish settlers arrived on July 11, 1733, Today in Georgia History.

Hope this Helps!
