Answer: The smallest bond angle in the molecule x-y-x is 180^0

Explanation:

According to VSEPR theory , each atom in a molecule will achieve a geometry that minimizes the repulsion between electrons in the valence shell of that atom.

In the given compound x-y-x, the number of electron pairs is 2 that means the hybridization will be sp^2  and geometry of the molecule will be linear as there are two bond pairs .The bond angle for linear geometry is 180° which reduces the electron electron repulsions and maximise stability.

How does the number of electrons relate to an element's atomic number? Why?
RSB [31]
The number of protons in the nucleus of the atom is equal to the atomic number. The number of electrons in a neutral atom is equal to the number of protons. The mass number of the atom is equal to the sum of the number of protons and neutrons in the nucleus.
