<span>A rancher wants to create two rectangular pens, as shown in the attached figure

Let the side parallel to the </span><span>existing fence line = y
And the sides which is perpendicular to </span><span>existing fence line = x
</span><span>The pens need to have a total area of 972 square feet
</span>∴ x y = 972
∴ y = 972/x

Let the length of needed fence = L
∴ L = y + 3x
substituting with the value of y
∴ L = \frac{972}{x} +3x
differentiating the length with respect to x and equating with zero
∴ \frac{dL}{dx} =  \frac{-972}{x^2} +3 = 0
solve for x
∴ x = 18
substituting to find y
∴ y = 54

<span>The dimensions should be used to minimize the amount of fence used
is 18 , 54 feet </span>

Which statement describes the behavior of the function f(x)=3x/4-x?
Oksana_A [137]

Answer:

The  graph approaches –3 as x approaches infinity. Option a is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

The given function is

f(x)=\frac{3x}{4-x}

We have to find value of function as x approaches infinity. Take limit both sides as x approaches to infinity.

\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}f(x)=\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}\frac{3x}{4-x}

Taking x common from the denominator.

\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}f(x)=\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}\frac{3x}{x(\frac{4}{x}-1)}

Cancel out common factor x.

\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}f(x)=\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}\frac{3}{\frac{4}{x}-1}

Apply limits.

\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}f(x)=\frac{3}{\frac{4}{\infty}-1}

\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}f(x)=\frac{3}{0-1}

\lim_{x\rightarrow \infty}f(x)=-3

Therefore the  graph approaches –3 as x approaches infinity.

A 6 pound bag of grass seed covers 2,000 square feet. How many pounds would be needed to cover 25,000 square feet? Round the ans
Lelechka [254]
6/2000 = x / 25,000.....6 lbs to 2000 sq ft = x lbs to 25,000 sq ft
cross multiply
(2000)(x) = (6)(25,000)
2000x = 150,000
x = 150,000/2000
x = 75 <== 75 lbs
